Job Description: Outside Builder Sales Representative

Position Summary: The Outside Builder Sales Representative is a strategic revenue generator responsible for aggressively growing our market share with Luxury Residential Builders and Remodelers. Far beyond a traditional sales role, this position requires a technical consultant who can leverage years of industry experience to provide accurate estimates, and guide clients through complex plumbing, appliance, and lighting selection. You will be responsible for penetrating new luxury builder accounts, managing project lifecycles from ground-break to trim-out, and significantly increasing profitability within the territory.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Prospecting: execute a targeted strategy to identify and secure new luxury builder clients. While also maintaining current relationships.
  • Job Site Consultations: Conduct regular field visits to active construction sites to verify measurements, coordinate deliveries, and resolve technical installation challenges in real-time.
  • Project Lifecycle Management: Manage the sales process for long-cycle construction projects, ensuring materials are specified early and delivered in alignment with the builder's construction schedule.
  • Solution-Based Selling: Act as a trusted advisor to designers and purchasing agents by recommending the selection of high-performance products that meet project specifications, budget constraints, and long-term quality standards.
  • Proposal Management: Create comprehensive, professional bid packages that clearly outline scope, pricing, and lead times.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with inside sales, the purchasing department, and logistics to ensure high fill rates and on-time delivery for builder partners.
  • Networking: Actively participate in local Home Builders Associations (HBA) and trade organizations to build a network of influence.

Qualifications & Skills Required:

  • Industry Experience: 5+ years of experience in the construction supply industry, specifically within Plumbing, Lighting, Home appliances.
  • Technical Literacy: Proven ability to read and interpret construction blueprints, schematics, and specification sheets.
  • Sales Track Record: Demonstrated history of penetrating new markets and securing contracts with custom and luxury home builders.
  • Strategic Mindset: Ability to approach the territory not just as a route, but as a business unit, analyzing profit margins and product mix to maximize ROI.
  • Valid Driver's License: Clean driving record and willingness to travel daily within the territory.

Preferred:

  • Builder Network: Existing relationships with local contractors and builders in the assigned territory.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business, or related field (or equivalent high-level trade experience).

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Active Construction Sites: Frequent exposure to active job sites (requiring PPE), unpaved terrain, and variable weather conditions.
  • Mobility: Ability to walk job sites, climb stairs/ladders if necessary to inspect rough-ins, and lift up to 25 pounds of product samples.
  • Travel: Travel up to 75% of the time within the Triangle area, including client offices, job sites, and trade shows.

Pay: $90, $150,000.00 per year
