About

Westbay Community Action's Children's Center is seeking a reliable Kitchen Aide to support our childcare team This role includes assisting in classrooms with children ages 6 weeks–5 years as needed; preparing and serving breakfast, catered lunch, and afternoon snack; and delivering all meals to classrooms on schedule. Responsibilities also include preparing infant bottles, washing dishes, maintaining inventory, ordering food as needed, and ensuring meals follow CACFP guidelines as well as all allergy/alternate-meal requirements. The Kitchen Aide must keep the kitchen clean and compliant with Rhode Island Department of Health regulations. Annual CACFP trainings are required, and the candidates must be willing and able to obtain a Certified Food Safety Manager License. The hours for this role are Monday through Friday, 8-2:30. Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred
  • One year experience in food handling desired, with experience operating kitchen equipment
  • Certified in safe food handling standards
  • CPR/First Aid certified or willing to obtain within 90 days of employment
  • Meet DCYF & BCI criminal background check requirements
  • Complete annual CACFP training
  • Valid driver's license is preferred
  • Reliable transportation is required
  • Knowledge of DHS Regulations for Childcare Centers
  • Proof of Flu shot required annually.

Knowledge of

  • USDA
  • CACFP guidelines
  • DOH Regulations pertaining to the cleanliness of kitchen area and equipment
  • Serving meals to young children

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation, portioning, and serving of meals (breakfast, lunch, and snacks) per the pre-approved menu
  • Prepare, portion and deliver meals for all classrooms according to CACFP menu and meal schedule
  • Prepare infant bottles as needed according to each infant's individual schedule
  • Follow all appropriate meal plans for students with special dietary needs
  • Clean kitchen, kitchen equipment, and storage areas daily as needed
  • Operate and maintain equipment
  • Order kitchen and cleaning supplies as necessary with the Childcare Director's approval
  • Organize and maintain kitchen and storage areas as per Department of Health regulations
  • Keep inventory of all food and supplies in supply closet
  • Receive food deliveries and put all food and supplies in designated areas
  • Follow first in first out procedures with all food, ensure all food is appropriately labeled with dates as needed and dispose of expired food
  • Stay up to date on CACFP meal pattern requirements
  • Temperature check all food at time of delivery, place in refrigerator/stove/freezer to maintain temperature until served
  • Record refrigerator temperatures daily
  • Record any menu changes and substitutions daily
  • Keep and update all necessary CACFP required documentation and file in assigned area as required
  • Provide direct supervision of children and classroom support as needed; including covering

The environment is a kitchen and school classroom. Universal standard precautions are necessary due to the potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens, respiratory infections, and other biohazardous materials. This position requires the individual to have their own transportation. A current unrestricted license to drive and documented auto insurance is preferred.
