We are currently seeking a safety-focused Forklift Operator/Yard Worker for a well-established drayage and materials-handling operation. This role requires experience with heavy-capacity forklifts up to 35,000 lbs. and a strong background in loading and unloading steel pipe and other bulk/oog (out-of-gauge) materials.
Position Overview
The Forklift Operator/Yard Worker supports daily yard operations by safely handling materials, operating heavy lifts, assisting with rigging and slinging tasks, and maintaining an organized and hazard-free work environment. The ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, and committed to safety at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy-capacity forklifts (up to 35,000 lbs.) safely and efficiently
- Load and unload steel pipe and other bulk commodities with precision and care
- Handle tools, rigging gear, and lashing materials as needed
- Place or remove dunnage on transport surfaces or stacked materials
- Hook, unhook, and inspect lifting equipment
- Apply proper rigging and slinging techniques
- Dismantle and store rigging/slinging equipment after use
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized yard environment
- Communicate clearly with coworkers and supervisors to support workflow
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience with bulk commodities and out-of-gauge materials
- MUST have experience operating 35,000 lb. capacity forklifts
- Strong experience loading/unloading steel pipe
- Prior yard or warehouse experience preferred
- Knowledge of rigging and slinging fundamentals
- Forklift certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- Strong safety awareness and ability to follow procedures
- Able to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Physical ability to climb, lift, and perform manual labor as required
