About

Murphy is recruiting for a Design Manager to join our growing Infrastructure team, delivering a major water infrastructure project in partnership with United Utilities, as part of the AMP8 programme. Murphy is a long-standing delivery partner to leading water clients across the UK and Ireland, including Thames Water, Severn Trent, Northern Ireland Water, Yorkshire Water, SES Water, Bristol Water, South East Water, and Uisce Éireann, where we operate over 25 facilities under full DBOM contracts. A day in the life of a Murphy Design Manager
Responsibilities
Produce design briefs for permanent works
Ensure consultants are appointed appropriately
Lead technical reviews of submissions from our design partners
Ensure conformance to the Murphy Design Management procedure
Lead design matters on small/medium/large/mega sized project/s as directed
Allocate design tasks to individuals/companies as required and maintain associated RACI
Manage day to day interface between design and construction teams and maintain its adequate records
Review design progress according to programme and contractual requirements
Lead constructability reviews
Involvement in work winning to ensure consultants are engaged appropriately and adequate allowances are included in the bid
Assist Senior Design Managers, consultants and multi-discipline engineering teams to deliver the design solutions to schedule and budget to a high standard of professional competence
Management of design change to support best outcome for the project
Support with management of risk and opportunity in design
Qualifications
Significant experience in a design management role within the construction sector.
Management skills - confident in managing staff, clients, design budgets and programmes
Flexibility and willingness to travel
HND or Engineering Degree qualified
Member of a recognised engineering institution. Incorporated Engineer or Chartered and or working towards membership
