Job Summary:

The Head Cook prepares meals at the assigned center. Duties include serving appetizing, nutritious meals; following required recipes and portion guides. Ensures that all food sanitation and safety regulations are followed; maintains food and supply inventory; and maintains required records either personally or through staff.

Responsibilities:

The Head Cook may be assigned to carry out duties in one or more of the following functional areas/roles, as needed and as assigned, on a daily basis.

  • Plans and coordinates standards and procedures of food storage, preparation, and service; equipment and overall sanitation; and employee safety.
  • Tastes, smells, and observes food to ensure conformance with recipes and appearance standards.
  • Ensure that meals are appetizing and nutritious. Assign tasks as needed to prepare food and clean kitchen. Prepare and supervise meal production as follows:
  • Congregate, Frozen, and Home Delivered
  • Snacks served on schedule if applicable
  • Follow required menus and recipes in compliance with food sanitation regulations and portion guides.
  • Ensure that safety regulations are followed.
  • Check temperature of food; monitor and record. Check temperatures of freezers and refrigerators daily; monitor and record.
  • Thaw meats and other frozen foods in advance. Check preparations for next two days' meals.
  • Maintain food and food service supply inventory. Order, receive, and check in food and supplies.
  • Oversee food rotation and maintenance of storage room.
  • Maintain required records. Enter daily food usage and weekly food service supply data into the computer.
  • Prepare and submit required reports.
  • Clean and/or supervise cleanup of food service area and equipment. Secure kitchen when leaving. Report equipment malfunctions or kitchen hazards to supervisor. Participate in fundraising activities.
  • Perform job duties in an ethical and positive manner. Maintain confidentiality.
  • Implement applicable policies, procedures, and goals.
  • Keep up-to-date and knowledgeable about food production and sanitation regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Attend required staff meetings, training and conferences.
  • Perform other responsibilities and assist in other projects as required.
  • Because the job is considered a safety-sensitive position, the employee in this position will be subject to unannounced drug and/or alcohol testing as permitted by law.
  • The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 per week
