Laundry Aide

Purpose

To perform the day-to-day activities of the Laundry Department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, and as may be directed by the Housekeeping and Laundry Supervisor, to ensure that the facility is maintained in a clean, safe and sanitary manner and to ensure that adequate supply of linen is on hand at all times to meet the needs of the residents.

Housekeeping Functions - Duties

1 Perform day-to-day laundry functions and specific tasks as assigned and in accordance with established laundry procedures: collect, count, sort, and wash soiled laundry, linens, garments, etc.

2 Dry, fold, hang, stack, and distribute clean laundry, linens, and garments to various departments.

3 Clean, wash, sanitize, deodorize, and disinfect all laundry areas including floors and equipment using proper disinfecting solutions and procedures.

4 Clean lint filters.

5 Ensure that work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable manner.

6 Ensure that work areas are free of all hazardous objects and that all equipment, tools, and supplies are properly stored at all times.

7 Ensure that established Universal Precautions and infection control, isolation, fire, safety, and sanitation practices and procedures are maintained and followed when performing laundry duties.

8 Promptly report all hazardous conditions and equipment to the Housekeeping Supervisor.

9 Present positive endorsement of Elm Terrace Gardens, its mission, programs, policies, procedures, and administration to Elm Terrace Gardens residents, staff, visitors, and other constituencies.

10 Report to work on time.

11 Assist with resident transport to and from activities.

Resident Rights Functions - Duties

1 Maintains resident confidentiality at all times.

2 Treats residents with kindness, dignity, patience, and respect.

3 Knows and complies with the rules of the residents' rights.

4 Adheres to residents' personal property rights at all times.

Staff Functions - Duties

1 Attends and participates in orientation, staff meetings, training, in-service sessions, and other activities as directed by the Housekeeping and Laundry Services Supervisor.

2 Follows established safety rules and regulations at all times, including fire safety procedures and disaster control.

3 Knows and complies with basic facility infection control policies and procedures, including blood-borne pathogen standard and infectious waste disposal.

Requirements

Qualifications

1 Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age

2 Completion of elementary education or otherwise show ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions

3 Must speak and understand English

4 Must possess an agreeable and positive attitude toward the residents

Housekeeping Functions - Physical & Sensory Req

1 Has the ability to sit, walk, reach, bend, lift, and has fine hand coordination.

2 Has the ability to pull, push, and distinguish smells and temperatures.

3 Has the ability to read and write English.

4 Has the ability to communicate with staff and residents.

5 Has the ability to remain calm under stress.
