Project Accountant – Role Overview
Our client is seeking a Project Accountant to support the full lifecycle of construction project financials. This position plays a key role in organizing, recording, analyzing, and tracking job-related costs and billing activities for a major construction project, along with several smaller ongoing efforts. The Project Accountant will also ensure vendor and subcontractor compliance to mitigate project risk. This role works closely with the Project Manager to maintain accurate financial performance and risk management throughout the duration of each project.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and submit monthly project invoices in accordance with contract terms.
- Compare project spending against budget and reconcile variances.
- Oversee vendor compliance requirements, including insurance documentation, lien waivers, retention, and W-9 forms.
- Generate and interpret job cost reports to evaluate financial performance.
- Support development of project status updates and maintain accurate financial and budget data within the project management/accounting platform (e.g., COINs or similar systems).
- Troubleshoot routine and advanced project accounting issues and resolve them promptly.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience.
- 3–5 years of experience in project accounting, ideally within the construction industry.
- Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals.
- Excellent organizational skills and high attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Customer service mindset with a collaborative approach.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Discretion and ability to handle confidential information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and general technical aptitude.
