CMS Landscape Management – Operations Manager

CMS Landscape Management is a full-service commercial grounds management company poised for growth. We are seeking a hands-on Operations Manager who can hit the ground running to oversee, enhance, and scale our field operations from day one.

The ideal candidate will possess strong management and leadership skills with the ability to lead teams effectively. The selected individual will be instrumental in helping to shape the company's future success by implementing innovative solutions, fostering a high-performance culture and driving sustained growth.

This role requires a unique individual who is as comfortable creating job plans on a computer as they are troubleshooting equipment or working in the field. Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

I. Operational Excellence & Efficiency

  • Analyze operational processes and workflows, identify inefficiencies, and implement changes to enhance productivity and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop, communicate, and maintain seasonal work schedules for all maintenance accounts, coordinating manpower, equipment, and materials in a timely fashion.
  • Create job plans for new work and periodically review established plans with intent to continuously improve performance and efficiency.
  • Monitor job cost reports regularly to maximize productivity and job efficiency, ensuring work is completed on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.
  • Ensure every crew is properly dispatched - equipped with a clear scope of work, resources and expectations.
  • Track and report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor operational performance. KPI's may include but are not limited to productivity measures, quality grades or financial targets and may vary in frequency.

II. Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and supervise multiple landscaping crews – including maintenance and installation – ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality service delivery. This includes fostering a culture of accountability through clear performance expectations, conducting direct and candid performance reviews, implementing performance improvement plans, and taking necessary corrective action, which may involve retraining or employee termination.
  • Train, develop and instruct crew leaders and crew members alike to create a continuously improving and sustainable workforce.
  • Provide coaching and timely feedback to optimize performance and oversee performance improvement processes when needed.
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment and assist in the hiring and successful onboarding of new team members.

III. Safety, Quality, and Compliance

  • Train, orient and strictly enforce all company safety procedures and policies, ensuring compliance with all industry regulations.
  • Ensure work is performed to the required level of quality to completely satisfy each customer. Participate in the company's Quality Control program.
  • Conduct audits, execute compliance processes and maintain accurate safety documentation.

IV. Equipment and Resource Management

  • Take part in staffing, supply, equipment, and technology allocation, anticipating and planning for future resource requirements as the company grows.
  • Support preventative maintenance, repair procedures, and safety inspections for equipment and vehicles. Ensure staff care for and use equipment properly.

V. Client and Internal Communication

  • Act as a liaison between field operations and the administrative, customer service, and general management functions.
  • Ensure high standards of customer satisfaction and jobsite quality, addressing operational issues promptly.
  • Communicate proactively and work with the Client Management team to resolve client concerns when applicable.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the landscaping industry is required, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Current or similar experience in operations management is strongly desired, with a proven ability to lead teams and manage daily operations.
  • Fluent in areas of productivity management, financial management including KPI's, resource management including scheduling and staffing, or similar.
  • General knowledge of local turf types, shrubs, ground cover, and seasonal color materials, including maintenance techniques and common issues.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a landscape or business-related field, or equivalent industry experience is a plus.
  • Experience with landscape operating systems such as LMN, Service Autopilot, Aspire or similar is strongly preferred .

Skills and Characteristics

  • Must be a self-motivated, creative problem solver / critical thinker with the capacity to innovate and handle issues independently.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for coordinating with teams, management, and clients.
  • Proficiency with technology is required. Able to work with tools such as Microsoft Office or Google Workspace as well as mobile applications of various types.
  • Ability to work hands-on in the field, including proficiency in equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, is highly valued.
  • Fluency with Spanish a plus.
  • Mechanical ability a plus.
  • *Must be willing and able to hold all individuals accountable. *

Physical Requirements

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record to meet insurance standards is a .
  • Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol test.
  • Ability to move and/or lift up to 60 pounds consistently.
  • Requires working outdoors in various weather conditions, including rain, sun, extreme cold or heat.
  • Schedule may vary and requires flexibility to work extended hours and/or weekends at times.

Pay: $50, $85,000.00 per year
