*The Role*
We are seeking a skilled Senior Magento Developer to take technical ownership of our Magento 2 ecommerce platform and its supporting infrastructure, including hosting, databases, and core web services.
This is a broad, hands-on role for an experienced professional who enjoys autonomy, responsibility, and solving complex real-world ecommerce problems.
The role is varied, encompassing building custom Magento modules, troubleshooting integration issues, and enhancing the existing Magento platform across multiple storefronts and supporting marketplaces such as eBay.
You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams and external partners to support the company’s ecommerce operations, while identifying and implementing technology solutions to deliver a reliable, scalable and secure platform that supports growth across the UK and Europe.
*Key Responsibilities*
*Magento 2 Platform Ownership*
* Own the stability, performance, and ongoing development of our Magento 2 platform
* Design, build, and maintain custom Magento modules and backend functionality
* Troubleshoot and resolve production issues efficiently
* Plan and deliver platform upgrades and improvements
* Ensure appropriate monitoring, logging and incident response processes are in place
* Maintain platform security, performance and resilience
*Integrations & Backend Systems*
* Own data flows between Magento, ERP, middleware, marketplaces, and analytics platforms
* Maintain and improve APIs, webhooks, imports/exports, and cron processes
* Support time-sensitive backend jobs and automation workflows
* Ensure data accuracy across stock, pricing, orders, and customer data
*Marketplaces, Feeds & Data*
* Support eBay, Amazon, and Google Merchant Centre integrations
* Maintain catalogue and inventory consistency across channels
* Support SQL queries and data sources feeding Power BI and internal reporting tools
*Development Quality & Leadership*
* Maintain high code quality and clean Git workflows
* Own deployments and CI/CD processes
* Document systems, decisions, and key workflows
* Mentor and upskill colleagues on key technical processes to reduce single-point dependency.
* Act as a technical point of contact for e-commerce systems within the business
*What We’re Looking For*
*Essential*
* Strong commercial experience in Magento 2 (Open Source) development with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
* Strong working knowledge of the wider web stack (PHP, MySQL, Python HTML/CSS/JS) and ecommerce security best practices.
* Deep understanding of Magento architecture, APIs, and ORM (Object-Relational Mapping)
* Experience supporting live, revenue-generating ecommerce platforms
* Proven experience owning integrations and data flows (ERP, marketplaces, feeds)
* Confident with Git / Bit Bucket and structured deployment workflows
* Able to explain technical decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders
* Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to analyse complex issues and implement effective solutions.
* Knowledge of security best practices and compliance requirements for websites and web applications.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
* Awareness of security, data privacy, and compliance considerations in e-commerce.
*Desirable*
* Experience with ERP integrations (NAV / Business Central)
* Integration-heavy or middleware-focused background
* Experience with Varnish, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch
* Magento certification
* Familiarity with AWS/Cloudflare
* Experience with the Hyvä themes
* Experience and or working knowledge of headless/composable architecture
* Strong technical leadership with the ability to prioritise and deliver e-commerce projects in a fast-paced environment.
* Solid understanding of e-commerce infrastructure, including servers, databases, CMS and web applications.
