The Role: Insurance Billing Specialist (Behavioral Health)
We are seeking an experienced Insurance Billing Specialist to manage insurance billing for outpatient mental health services. This is a part-time role, typically requiring a few hours per week, with the option to work as either a W-2 employee or a 1099 contractor, depending on fit and preference.

This role is designed for an experienced billing professional who works best with clear expectations and minimal micromanagement. Hours are flexible, with a consistent weekly cadence and timely follow-through on claims and payer communications.

Responsibilities
- Submit, track, and manage insurance claims for outpatient mental health services
- Resolve claim rejections and denials through corrections, resubmissions, and payer follow-up
- Post insurance payments from ERAs/EOBs and reconcile accounts
- Monitor aging claims and follow up within payer timelines
- Identify recurring billing or payer issues and communicate recommendations for improvement
- Coordinate with leadership and administrative staff to resolve documentation or authorization issues as needed
Qualifications
- Required: Demonstrated experience with insurance billing and payer follow-up
- Strongly Preferred: Experience with behavioral health / mental health therapy billing
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and communicate clearly regarding claim status and outstanding items
- Familiarity with HIPAA-compliant billing workflows
