Job Summary and Qualifications

The Radiologic Technologist Student (Staff Member) who obtains their Non-Certified Radiologic Technician (NCT) license may only perform radiologic procedures under the supervision and direction of a registered Radiologic Technologist and must comply with all applicable statutes and rules under the laws governing the practice of the practitioner. The student must demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

The NCT conducts radiologic procedures to provide data to assist in the diagnosis of patients. The position's tasks and responsibilities include:

  • NCTs registered under ยง194.13 may not perform a dangerous or hazardous procedure as set out in ยง relating to Dangerous or Hazardous Procedures).
  • Demonstrates competency in areas of general diagnostic radiography, use of digital equipment, knowledge of the PACS system, positioning, procedure preparation and technical factors.
  • Understands and follows infection control/universal precautions in the performance of all job tasks.
  • Accommodates inpatients or requests for urgent exams as the need arises.
  • Observant for image artifacts; clean image detectors as necessary
  • Possess the ability to assess a situation, consider alternatives and choose an appropriate course of action.
  • Obtains patient history as needed; assists radiologist during procedures, helping to put the patient at ease.
  • Advises supervisor of any equipment issues requiring service.
  • Demonstrates ability to shut down radiologic equipment and/or reboot computers.
  • Operates x-ray equipment to make radiographs of designated portions of the body.
  • Explains procedures to patients and addresses their concerns.
  • Monitors, records and communicates as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems.
  • Utilizes knowledge of age specific needs of patient in performance of duties and responsibilities.
  • Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff.
  • Assists with transporting patients.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to make independent decisions while maintaining tact, maturity and a positive attitude. Initiative and judgment required in assuming responsibilities.
  • Participates in hospital and/or departmental quality improvement initiatives and seeks to improve department and inter-departmental processes

  • Assists with other duties as assigned by department leadership

What qualifications you will need:
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and in good standing

  • NCT License issued by the Texas Medical Board within 90 days of hire or

  • Decatur, Illinois, United States
