Position Overview

The Data Center Telecom Cable Technician at DeftDCM will play a critical role in supporting data center telecommunications infrastructure to ensure reliable connectivity, compliance with standards, and operational efficiency. This position involves hands-on work installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting copper and fiber cabling systems within mission-critical data center environments.

The ideal candidate is highly self-directed, capable of working independently with minimal supervision, and proactive in identifying potential issues and solutions before they impact operations. Strong documentation skills, responsiveness, and critical thinking are essential to success in this role.

Key ResponsibilitiesTelecom Cabling & Infrastructure Support

  • Install, terminate, label, and test copper and fiber optic cabling within data center environments.
  • Perform rack, ladder rack, and overhead tray cable routing in accordance with data center standards.
  • Support structured cabling builds, restacks, and infrastructure refresh projects.

Data Center Operations

  • Install, uninstall, and relocate telecom and network-related hardware as part of cabling and infrastructure projects.
  • Coordinate power, circuit, and cabling requirements with facilities teams and third-party vendors.
  • Maintain cable management standards to ensure proper airflow, accessibility, and documentation.

System Support & Maintenance

  • Troubleshoot and resolve cabling-related connectivity issues with minimal oversight.
  • Support Level 1–2 break/fix activities related to telecom infrastructure.
  • Anticipate potential infrastructure risks and proactively recommend solutions before issues occur.

Project Collaboration & Independent Execution

  • Execute assigned work independently, managing daily tasks and priorities without direct supervision.
  • Remain highly responsive to requests, incidents, and schedule changes.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams, vendors, and site leadership.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Accurately document all work performed, including task details, locations, dates, times, and outcomes.
  • Maintain up-to-date records in DCIM, ticketing, and tracking systems.
  • Provide timely status updates and clear handoffs to ensure continuity of operations.

Risk & Compliance Management

  • Ensure all work complies with data center standards, safety requirements, and change management processes.
  • Maintain clean, organized data center spaces through proper housekeeping and best practices.
  • Support audits and compliance efforts related to physical infrastructure and cabling.

Position Details

  • Location: On-site work only; data center location in Newark, DE.
  • Type: Contract with regular renewals.
  • Rate: $35.00–$40.00 per hour (commensurate with experience).
  • Schedule: 8-hour shifts, with occasional evening or weekend work based on project needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 2–5 years of experience in data center cabling, telecom, or related infrastructure work; or 6+ years of relevant experience without a degree.
  • Proven ability to work independently in live data center environments.
  • Hands-on experience installing, terminating, and testing copper and fiber optic cabling.
  • Strong documentation skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize work, think critically, and respond quickly to changing needs.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including lifting equipment and working overhead.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry certifications (BICSI, CommScope, fiber/copper certifications, or similar).
  • Experience working in mission-critical or regulated data center environments.
  • Familiarity with DCIM tools and ticketing systems.

Pay: $ $40.00 per hour
