Why Your Role Matters

As a Guitar Instructor, you'll guide students through engaging lessons that build foundational skills, musical confidence, and self-expression. Each week, you'll watch students progress from simple chords to full songs while developing creativity, focus, and a love for music. You'll create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable learning, practicing, and discovering the joy of making music.

How You Will Make an Impact?

  • Develop customized guitar lesson plans tailored to the goals and skill levels of individual students, including adults.

  • Provide personalized instruction in guitar technique, music theory, and performance skills to help students achieve their musical aspirations.

  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel encouraged to explore, experiment, and grow as musicians.

  • Foster positive relationships with students, offering guidance, feedback, and encouragement to support their musical journey.

  • Collaborate with YMCA colleagues to organize performances, recitals, and other musical events that showcase student achievements and foster a sense of community

  • Lead by example in promoting the YMCA's mission, vision, and values.

  • Serve as an ambassador for the organization with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Be the ultimate storyteller of the YMCA's work and culture.

  • Complete other duties as assigned.

What you bring to the Purpose:

  • Minimum of 18 years of age.

  • Must have a music background.

  • Instructor experience preferred.

  • Proficiency in playing the guitar across various musical genres, with a strong foundation in classical, folk, rock, and jazz styles.

  • Previous experience teaching guitar lessons to students of all ages and skill levels, including adults.

  • Patient, compassionate, and enthusiastic approach to teaching and mentoring music students.

  • Commitment to the YMCA's mission and values of community, inclusivity, and personal growth.

Compensation: $16.00-$40.00 per hour, DOE

Founded in 1953 and anchored in three Central Texas counties, the Y has served close to 500,000 people and provided more than $30M in financial assistance and program subsidies over the past 10 years. We operate 8 community centers and Camp Moody along with 6 early childhood education centers, 60 afterschool programs on school campuses in four districts, and 20 summer camps, with 1500 staff team members, 1000 volunteers, and a $48M annual operating budget.
