General Summary of Duties:Assists in the care of hospitalized patients as requested under the direct supervision of the professional staff. Assists with basic patient care such as: positioning, vital signs, and ADLs. Communicates with the nursing staff about changes in the patient's status. Supervision: Reports to LPN, Charge Nurse, RN, DON Supervision Exercised: None Education, Training, and Experience:

  • High school graduate, GED, or equivalent.
  • Current BLS certification.

Language Skills: Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Additional languages preferred, but not required. Basic Skills: Basic computer skills. Typical Physical Demands: Able to lift 50 pounds. Lengthy periods of sitting and standing. Moving equipment, assisting with positioning and movement of patients, carry and lift equipment and instruments, exposure to anesthetic gases, hazardous chemicals, blood and body fluids, sharps, and cleaning solutions. Requires full range of motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Frequent standing and walking or other means of mobility for extended period of time. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with patient positioning.
  • Provides patient care by taking vital signs, feeding patients, assisting with ADLs.
  • Assists with putting charts together.
  • Familiar and assists with locating equipment.
  • Transports patient to vehicles at discharge.
  • Empties linen.
  • Orders supplies and maintains records, reports, log, etc.
  • Maintains the rights, dignity, and confidentiality of the patient.
  • Participates in the emergency, fire, and disaster drills.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
  • Follows all Policies and Procedures.
  • Attends required in-services and educational programs.
  • Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.
  • Assists physician in wound care, application of splints and dressings, and dressing changes.
  • Responds calmly to emergency situations.
  • Assists with emergencies as needed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and recognize safety hazards and take appropriate precautions.
  • Communicate clearly.
  • Maintain quality control standards.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with patients, medical staff, and the public

Professional Requirements:

  • Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Wears identification while on duty.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
  • Attends annual review and performs departmental in-services.
  • Maintains standards of professional society procedures and ethical behavior.
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff.
  • Attends committee, CQI, and management meetings as appropriate.
  • Effectively communicates administrative directives to personnel and encourages interactive departmental meetings and discussions.
  • Resolves personnel concerns at the departmental level, utilizing the grievance process as required.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Working Condition: May be exposed to communicable disease, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
