About The Role
The Senior Data Scientist role at Optum Insight is a pivotal position focused on developing and enhancing cutting-edge Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies tailored for medical applications. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams including NLP engineers, research linguists, software engineers, and subject matter experts to design, implement, and deploy advanced NLP solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing, with experience in transforming clinical data into actionable insights. The position offers flexibility to work remotely within the United States, providing an opportunity to tackle complex challenges in healthcare technology and contribute to innovative projects that directly impact patient care and health outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with Python, including frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and data manipulation libraries like pandas or polars.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience utilizing machine learning and deep learning techniques, with a proven track record or academic publications in the field.
  • Over 1 year of hands-on experience implementing transformer architectures such as BERT, GPT, or related models.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with deploying NLP solutions at scale in production environments.
  • Knowledge of AI tools and frameworks that streamline workflows and automate tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Enhance and optimize existing NLP technologies to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Extend NLP systems into new cloud-based applications, ensuring seamless integration and deployment.
  • Incorporate machine learning and deep learning techniques into clinical NLP solutions to extract meaningful insights from healthcare data.
  • Participate in all phases of software development, including requirements gathering, design, implementation, integration, and testing.
  • Apply expertise in Information Retrieval, Information Extraction, and other AI methodologies to solve complex healthcare challenges.
  • Develop and deploy NLP models at scale, ensuring robustness and performance in production environments.
  • Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools to automate workflows, streamline processes, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to translate clinical and technical requirements into innovative NLP solutions.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in AI and NLP, contributing to research publications and knowledge sharing.
