Lifelong Access is seeking aMaintenance Assistant to provides hands-on support to keep all Lifelong Access facilities including offices and residential homes safe, clean, and welcoming. This position will assist the Facilities Maintenance Manager on a variety of projects. Position is responsible for supporting the organization's responsibility to provide a safe and secure environment.

Minimum Starting Wage: 21/hr
Job Type: Full-time (40 hours per week)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with general maintenance tasks, including minor electrical, plumbing, painting, and carpentry work under the direction of the Facilities Maintenance Manager.
  • Help with small repair projects and touch-ups to keep facilities in good working condition.
  • Support painting, drywall patching, and basic renovation work as assigned.
  • Report any facility issues, safety concerns, or needed repairs promptly to the Facilities Maintenance Manager.
  • Assist with cleaning projects or supply restocking that fall outside of contracted janitorial services.
  • Support outdoor maintenance tasks such as landscaping, snow removal, and general upkeep of grounds.
  • Help move furniture, supplies, or equipment during setup, cleaning, or renovation projects.
  • Assist with setup and teardown for special meetings or events.
  • Participate in special maintenance projects across different locations, adjusting schedule when needed.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe environment for staff and residents.
  • Demonstrate Lifelong Access's core values in all interactions and work performed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission and needs of Lifelong Access.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Prior experience in maintenance, repair, or custodial work preferred but not required — training will be provided.
  • Interest in learning basic repair, carpentry, painting, and building maintenance skills.
  • Reliable and dependable work habits with a strong desire to help others.
  • Valid Illinois driver's license with a driving record in good standing.
  • Proof of current automobile insurance.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments across Lifelong Access facilities, including administrative offices and residential program homes.
  • The employee may be occasionally exposed to varying temperatures, wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather, dust, cleaning agents, or moderate noise levels.
  • The employee may work in occupied settings that support individuals with disabilities, and should maintain professionalism, patience, and respect for the people we serve.
  • Occasional schedule flexibility may be required for maintenance emergencies, weather-related issues, or special projects.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and use of hands to handle tools and materials.
  • Ability to occasionally work from ladders or step stools when completing repair or maintenance tasks.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Requires the ability to visually inspect work and identify basic maintenance issues.
  • Requires sufficient hearing and communication skills to interact with staff and residents and respond to verbal instructions or alarms.
  • Must be able to operate standard maintenance tools and light equipment safely.
  • Ability to drive agency or personal vehicle to multiple sites as needed.
