Description CMS2 is a specialist equipment manufacturer supplying maritime atmosphere control systems and support services. CMS2 are experts in enabling high availability atmosphere management systems to generate breathable air for submariners, allowing boats to remain underwater for long periods of time. We do this by combining over sixty years of expertise with the latest technology and processes to design, build and support high quality systems and solutions. As a Design Engineer at CMS2 you will join a multidisciplinary engineering team to support in the creation of novel engineering solutions to support new product introduction as well as developing improvements to the existing product line.
Key Responsibilities
Taking engineering requirements, and from them developing novel engineering solutions.
The creation of manufacturing drawings required for product implementation based on available manufacturing techniques and capabilities.
Maintain liaison with design and technical authority and project engineers throughout the term of projects
Ensure Company technical requirements and relevant professional standards and legislative codes of practice are maintained and adhered to.
Ensure all departmental and Company procedures are upheld
Peer review the work of colleagues.
Create, review and update and maintain parts details, sub-assemblies and bill of materials in the company MRP system
Support the creation of product documentation.
Component selection and analysis of engineering response/solution including calculations to verify design when required and the generation supporting reports.
To carry out any other ad-hoc duties as required to support the needs of the business
Working to business procedures in an efficient and timely manner
Office based but working and / or visiting various sites, as required, for short periods, which may involve absence from home
Maintaining a continuous level of professional development to ensure personal knowledge is up to date
Capable of representing a world class brand at the highest levels
Promote continuous improvement throughout the department.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Essential
HND/Degree or equivalent qualification with Mechanical bias
Engineering Design experience
Proficient user of SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software
Knowledge / exposure of Mathematical Modelling (Traditional Design Skills)
Adaptable and proactive personality
Desire for Self-Improvement and pro-active personal development
Good verbal and written English skills
Desirable
Experience of working within a defence environment.
Knowledge of routing pipework and/or design of fabrications and welded assemblies
Experience of designing special purpose machinery.
Knowledge of ISO9000 or a similar QA system.
Experience of working with a Product Data Management system e.g. SolidWorks PDM, Autodesk Vault
Able to build long-term successful working relationships, both internally and externally.
Competent with MS Office (Word and Excel)
Experience of engineering simulation (FEA or CFD)
Other Requirements
Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK
Candidates must have passed UK security clearance to Security Check level or be able to obtain this level. To gain SC clearance you will normally have had to have been a resident in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.
Travel Requirements
Some travel to other Group offices in the UK may occasionally be required.
