Position Summary

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy machinery within a metal processing environment. This role requires experience working in high-hazard areas such as construction, steel mills, or industrial processing plants. The operator will handle, move, load, and transport scrap metal, raw materials, and finished products while adhering to strict safety protocols and production requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, skid steers, forklifts, material handlers, and cranes (as applicable).
  • Load and unload scrap metal, raw materials, and processed products into hoppers, conveyors, trucks, and storage areas.
  • Inspect equipment daily and complete pre-operation checklists; report and document any defects or maintenance needs.
  • Maintain safe distances around workers, vehicles, and operating zones in a busy production yard.
  • Monitor material flow, identify hazards, and prevent equipment or environmental damage.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and immediately report them to leadership.
  • Keep equipment and work areas clean, clear, and organized per 5S standards.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance such as greasing, cleaning, and minor adjustments.
  • Assist with manual labor tasks when equipment is not in use.
  • Comply with all company, OSHA, and environmental regulations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2–5 years of heavy equipment operation experience in high-hazard environments such as construction, metal processing, recycling, mining, or heavy industrial sites.
  • Valid heavy machinery certifications or equipment operator licenses preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial safety practices
  • Ability to read and interpret safety instructions.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in fast-paced, team-oriented environments.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts, weekends as required and if needed.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 per hour
