About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our dynamic Data & Analytics team at BAE Systems. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing, maintaining, and optimizing complex data pipelines and SQL scripts that support critical business operations and strategic decision‑making. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams to ensure the integrity, performance, and scalability of our data infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in relational databases, data warehousing, and ETL processes, with the ability to analyze and enhance existing solutions. Qualifications The successful candidate will possess a combination of technical expertise and practical experience. Essential qualifications include prior experience in a similar data engineering role, with a strong command of SQL and familiarity with SQL Server Management Studio and the Microsoft BI stack (including SSIS and SSRS) or equivalent database technologies. A thorough understanding of relational database concepts, dimensional modeling, and data warehousing principles is crucial. Desirable qualifications include experience with data warehousing architecture, best practices, and deploying production‑grade packages. Knowledge of Alteryx Designer and its application in data workflows will be advantageous. The candidate should demonstrate excellent problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment.
Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and optimize complex SQL scripts and ETL data pipelines to facilitate data ingestion, transformation, and reporting processes.
Monitor and validate ETL development activities, ensuring data loads into the data warehouse are accurate and efficient.
Maintain and enhance existing ETL solutions, identifying opportunities for performance improvements and process automation.
Analyze existing SQL queries to identify and implement performance enhancements, ensuring optimal data retrieval and processing speeds.
Conduct peer code reviews, UAT testing, and create comprehensive test cases to ensure the quality and reliability of data solutions.
Adhere to company policies regarding source control, validation, and promotion of code and data assets.
Work within a change control environment, managing updates and modifications to data pipelines and systems responsibly.
Write, review, and maintain technical documentation to support ongoing development and operational activities.
