About the Role The University of East London is seeking a highly skilled and passionate Senior UX Designer to join our digital innovation team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for shaping compelling digital experiences across web and mobile platforms that serve our diverse community. Your expertise will drive user‑centered design practices, ensuring our digital products are intuitive, accessible, and engaging. You will lead UX projects, conduct research, develop prototypes, and collaborate closely with developers, product managers, and stakeholders to enhance user journeys continually. Your work will directly contribute to the university’s goal of providing innovative, inclusive, and sustainable digital solutions that support our students, staff, and wider community.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a degree in UX design, human‑computer interaction, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
You should have extensive experience working as a UX Designer, supported by a diverse portfolio demonstrating research, problem‑solving, and visual design skills.
Proven expertise in conducting user research, gathering requirements, and applying UX methodologies is essential.
Experience with prototyping tools such as Figma, and familiarity with maintaining design systems or style guides, is required.
A solid understanding of front‑end technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to support collaboration with developers will be highly advantageous.
Strong communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders confidently are also key attributes for success in this role.
Responsibilities
Lead end‑to‑end UX design projects, including user research, wireframing, prototyping, usability testing, and validation to ensure optimal user experiences.
Utilize UX testing tools such as A/B testing, tree testing, card sorting, surveys, and moderated or unmoderated sessions to gather insights and inform design decisions.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in Agile/Scrum environments, working closely with developers, product owners, and stakeholders to deliver user‑focused solutions.
Create and maintain prototypes, wireframes, and design systems using tools like Figma, ensuring consistency and adherence to brand guidelines.
Support front‑end development by applying knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to enhance performance and user accessibility.
Advocate for accessibility, inclusivity, and continuous improvement in all digital design initiatives, ensuring products meet diverse user needs.
Translate user insights and research findings into actionable design strategies that improve digital engagement and usability.
Present design concepts and rationale to stakeholders, influencing decision‑making and fostering a user‑centered culture across teams.
