Utilise exploratory data‑science techniques to extract actionable insights and communicate data‑driven recommendations through clear visualisations.
Stay up‑to‑date with modelling techniques and advise on the optimal methods for each problem.
Ensure selected techniques remain fit for purpose through ongoing monitoring and robust data pipelines.
Plan own workload and projects, prioritise tasks, and manage time effectively in a fast‑moving environment.
Test own work and peer‑review team members’ work to maintain high quality standards.
Mentor junior team members and support learning within the team.
Create and maintain documentation of analyses, tool development and reporting for CODU projects.
Represent CODU at internal and external meetings, presenting progress and maintaining productive stakeholder relationships.
Act as point of contact for CODU queries and incident management, ensuring issues are logged and tracked.
Lead the resolution of assigned tasks in an efficient and professional manner, following Trust and departmental procedures.
Support the highly important requirements of performance management and income teams, demonstrating an awareness of NHS financial and performance reporting.
Provide expertise on information governance, data protection and NHS information security, ensuring compliance with NHS Information Governance policies.
Participate in root‑cause analysis (RCA) for incidents and problems, liaising with other Trust managers as required.
Collectively contribute to the development and maintenance of a culture of continuous improvement and excellent service provision across the unit.
Any other duties commensurate with the post and grade that may be requested by the Lead Data Scientist.
Qualifications and Experience
Postgraduate qualification in analytics, statistics, data science or a demonstrable equivalent experience.
Extensive experience with programming languages and statistical packages such as Python, R, Stata, and developing machine‑learning tools.
Experience applying statistical techniques to extract insights and provide actionable recommendations.
Experience working with analytical professionals, senior managers and multidisciplinary teams in a clinical setting.
Experience managing and utilising information within the NHS or a similar environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Desirable: Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
Desirable: Experience as a professional statistician/data scientist and in a healthcare setting.
Desirable: Experience documenting results for publication.
Excellent communication, written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex statistical methods to non‑statisticians.
Strong organisational skills, time‑management, and attention to detail.
Ability to work under pressure, prioritise, and manage multiple tasks independently.
Collaborative, innovative, respectful, trustworthy, integrity‑oriented, and responsible professional attributes.
Evidence of continuing professional and personal development in data science or related fields.
Capability to travel to Christie‑managed sites or partner organisations as required.
