The Patient Care Technician in Ambulatory Surgery provides direct patient care and assists nursing staff by monitoring patient condition and performing specific procedures such as specimen collection and decentralized lab testing. This role involves ensuring a safe and supportive environment for patients, documenting care, and coordinating with the care team under RN supervision. The position requires a high school diploma, relevant certification (CNA, EMT, LPN), and the ability to perform physical tasks and communicate effectively in a clinical setting.

- 1. Demonstrates skill in observing and communicating patient needs.
- 1.1 Identifies changes in patient's condition and communicates significant observations to the nurse in a timely fashion as indicated by report to the nurse.
- 2. Demonstrates skill in providing direct patient care.
- 2.1 Accepts report on assigned patients and demonstrates understanding as evidenced by her/his communication.
- 3. Performs decentralized laboratory testing as credentialed.
- 3.1 Appropriately collects specimen and performs test (i.e. EKGs, blood drawing, blood sugars and guiac, etc.) following established policy and procedure.
- 4. Completes non-therapeutic functions as assigned by NM/designee.
- 4.1 Follows correct procedure in performing non patient care activities.
- 5. Demonstrates accountability and responsibility in daily performance of role.
- 5.1 Relocates and rotates to meet patient care needs.
- 6. Maintains unit environment.
- 6.1 Reports repair needs to appropriate person and follows through to ensure repairs are completed as observed by supervisor and as indicated by feedback from staff.
- 7. Demonstrates skill in observing and communicating patient needs.
- 7.1 Assists RN in designated activities as observed by supervisor.
- 8. Performs other related duties as needed and/or directed.
- 8.1 Transports patients/supplies as required for patient care following established hopsital procedures as observed by supervisor and as indicated by feedback from staff.
- 9. Demonstrates accountability and responsibility in daily performance of role.
- 9.1 Relocates and rotates to meet patient care needs as observed by supervisor.
