JOB SUMMARY
The Employee Health Nurse supports a safe, healthy workforce by coordinating and delivering a comprehensive Employee Health Program for hospital staff. This role focuses on illness and injury prevention, regulatory compliance, and employee well-being through health surveillance, screenings, immunization programs, and post-exposure follow-up. The Employee Health Nurse partners closely with leadership, Infection Prevention, and Human Resources to promote workplace safety, support infection control practices, and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards, including Joint Commission, OSHA, state and local public health requirements, and CDC guidelines.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Employee Health & Surveillance
  • Coordinate and administer employee health screenings, immunizations, TB surveillance, respirator fit testing, and other occupational health requirements.
  • Conduct pre-employment, annual, and post-exposure health evaluations in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Monitor, assess, and follow up on employee illnesses, injuries, exposures, and work-related health concerns.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential employee health records, including summaries and written reports required for employee illness and injury reporting, in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policy.
  • Coordinate Workers' Compensation cases, including injury reporting, employee education related to workplace injuries, and ensuring appropriate referrals to Workers' Compensation-designated medical providers.
Infection Prevention & Safety
  • Educate staff on infection prevention practices, blood borne pathogen standards, and exposure prevention.
  • Partner with Infection Prevention to support exposure response, surveillance activities, and compliance with infection control standards.
  • Participate as a member of the Infection Control Committee, Environmental Safety Committee, and other hospital-wide committees as requested by executive leadership.
  • Support return-to-work determinations in alignment with medical guidance, job requirements, and organizational policy.
Regulatory Compliance & Accreditation
  • Ensure Employee Health Program compliance with Joint Commission standards related to workforce safety, infection prevention, and occupational health.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations, including blood borne pathogens, respirator use, and workplace safety standards.
  • Support regulatory surveys, audits, and reviews by preparing documentation, participating in interviews, and addressing findings related to employee health and safety.
  • Remain current on regulatory requirements and evidence-based practices impacting employee health programs.
Education & Program Development
  • Provide education and guidance to employees and leaders on workplace health, safety, injury prevention, and wellness initiatives.
  • Assist in the development, review, and implementation of policies and procedures related to employee health, infection control, and workplace safety.
  • Promote a culture of safety, prevention, and employee well-being throughout the organization.
  • Collaboration & Communication
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on onboarding health requirements, Workers' Compensation processes, leave-related medical clearance, and return-to-work coordination.
  • Serve as a clinical resource to leaders regarding employee health issues while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Communicate effectively with employees, providers, public health agencies, and internal stakeholders.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Experience and License:
  • Associate's degree in nursing required, Bachelor's degree in Nursing, preferred.
  • Current and unrestricted Wyoming Registered Nurse license.
  • BLS, required.
  • Clinical nursing experience; occupational or employee health experience, preferred
  • Willingness to obtain instructor certification for Breath Alcohol Testing and Drug Testing Collector.
  • Willingness to obtain Drug Testing Collection certification, Breath Alchohol Testing Certification and FIT Certification.
Additional Skills:
  • One year of experience in infection control or additional course work or certification in infection control, preferred.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Basic computer knowledge and is comfortable with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently and manage sensitive information with discretion.
  • Demonstrates a respectful, collaborative approach that fosters positive working relationships among leaders and teams across the organization.
Specific demands not listed: Possible exposure to blood and or body fluids / infectious disease / hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Exposure to odorous chemicals / specimens and Latex products.
