We are currently looking for Technical Assessment Specialist to join our WBI Home Warranty team in our Surrey office. This is a hybrid role (Report Writing and Team Collaboration in office in Surrey, BC and Technical Assessments completed throughout the Vancouver, Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley Areas, as well as some travel throughout BC and Alberta as required) In this role, you will be responsible for investigating and assessing submitted defects in new homes to determine the home warranty coverage provided under the policy, while serving as a liaison between the claims department and claims handlers, and the builder or developer. The position ensures that all claimed items are managed in accordance with applicable legislation, policy provisions, and company guidelines to resolve claims in a timely and efficient manner.

Duties & Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Perform technical assessments on new homes to determine if defects are warrantable under the new home warranty acts and regulations.
- Prepare and complete professional reports on items viewed during technical assessments to assist with bringing closure to disputed and/or claimed items.
- Provide technical opinions for claims handlers.
- Manage files to ensure that claims are assessed in a timely and strategic manner.
- Build and maintain relationships with Builder members.
- Attend various industry functions to stay current with industry developments and strengthen relationships with Builder members.
- Engage external professionals, as needed, to support coverage determinations.
- Review engineering reports and technical assessments relevant to claim files.
- Coordinate with third-party contractors to scope, estimate, and manage necessary repairs.
- Proactively manage and maintain organized, timely, and accurate records
- Maintain open communication with the Claims and Inspections Departments to support strong risk management practices.
- Participate in work-related functions and industry events.
- Maintain required insurance licensing in accordance with regulatory standards.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge & Experience
- Core knowledge of the stages and components of single-family and multifamily home construction.
- Core knowledge of regulatory and/or legislative requirements relating to the construction industry, such as BC Building Code, Residential Construction Performance Guide, etc.
- Core knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in commercial, industrial, and residential building construction, alteration, or repair.
- Minimum of 2-5 years' construction industry experience is required.
- Valid class 5 driver's license and a reliable vehicle are required.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft suite of products particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Construction related certificates/tickets are an asset but are not required.
- Knowledge of a second language such as Punjabi, Hindi, Mandarin, or Cantonese is an asset.

Compensation
- The expected salary range for this position is $65,000 to $75,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate's skills, experience, and location, as well as the specific position's business line, scope, and level.
