Reporting to the Social Program Manager, the part-time Youth Program Facilitator will be responsible for the development and implementation of neighborhood-based programming that is recreational, educational or skill developmental, for youth ages 11-24 of the Glen Cairn and Pond Mills neighborhoods.
o Along with supervisor, plan, organize, implement, and evaluate existing and new youth programs and initiatives for the Glen Cairn and Pond Mills community
o Actively engage in continuous participant and volunteer recruitment and engagement through promotion of programs
o Creating a safe space for all community members, free of judgement or bias, accepting of all individuals
o Together with staff, research, develop and implement programs focused on capacity building opportunities for participants and volunteers that is high quality programming, meeting criteria and policies of GCCRC, fulfilling requirements of all funders, and the needs of the community
o Ensuring program focuses are skill building in nature
o Support team with presentations regarding programs and services to community, partners, funders, stakeholders, board members, etc
o Ensure professional and effective communication with community, parents, youth, and professional partners is established
o Development professional partnerships to best support community needs
o Actively identify gaps in programming and work with team to fill theses gaps
o Represent GCCRC externally, in the community, City wide level, and within broader networks
o Act as an appropriate role model for area youth
o Share organizational learning with appropriate partners, funders, and city-wide tables
o Ensure program outcomes are evaluated and leveraged for maximum community and organizational impact
o Develop the necessary systems, processes, and tools to better support the facilitation, collection and sharing of knowledge generated from programs, reports, and evaluations
o Work together to develop new procedures for accurate and more effective data collection and program evaluation procedures
o Liaison with parents, caregivers, community groups and partners, including local schools, agencies, and community representatives
o Provide positive interaction, crisis intervention, life skills counselling and advocacy to community members
o Support community members facing barriers
o Provide resources and referrals while respecting the dignity of each person who assess services
o Maintain program materials within assigned budget
o Source opportunities for free and/or discounted supplies needed for programming
o In conjunction with other staff, plan, and coordinate programming around community initiatives
o Adhere to all Ministry of Health guidelines for COVID-19 pandemic procedures
o Ensure safety of program participants
o Responds to emergencies in accordance with established policies and procedures
o Prepare food for programs and events in accordance with safe food handling guidelines
o Maintain financial records, budgets, statistical reports for Youth Programs within given deadlines
o Prepare funding reports as requested
o Together with supervisor, develop and maintain procedures for accurate statistical data collection
o Maintain ongoing, accurate statistical tracking for all youth programs and services, including up-to-date attendance tracking records, including emergency contact and participant information
o Track program expenditures and request funds appropriately as per financial policies and procedures
o Actively seek new funding opportunities and resources
o Promote programs in most effective way per demographic
o Ensure all programs are promoted on social media and website
o Assist team in preparing Centre calendars, brochures, and handouts for all services
o Adhere to all GCCRC Policies and Procedures
o Other administrative duties are required
o Provide training to new students/volunteers to effectively support programs
o Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the Management team informed of all new issues and critical issues within the Centre
o Actively participate in staff meetings
o Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities
o Build and maintain effective working relationships with team members and partners, including effective teamwork, clear, concise, continuous communication, and effective use of shared spaces
o Contribute to the development of GCCRC overall strategic goals and objectives by participating in Centre events and activities
o Recognize that client and partner feedback is an opportunity to improve performance and identify the need for any changes to improve programs and relationships
o Be receptive and adaptive to change
o Work within a team environment with minimal supervision.
o Exhibit a strong sense of personal capabilities, accept ownership and accountability for own actions.
Other duties as required or assigned by the Executive Director, Office and Operations Manager, or Designate.
o 1 year work experience in a related field
o Completion of related post secondary education in Social Service field or relevant, CYC, SSW, etc is required
o Understanding of Community Development service delivery
o Skilled at developing supportive relationships with people experiencing the effects of poverty, homelessness, and mental and physical health challenges
o Current CPR and First Aid certification
o Current Safe Food Handling certification
o Must produce a current Criminal Record Background Check for Vulnerable Persons Screening
o Previous experience with diverse populations
o Leadership and interpersonal skills
o Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others
o Ability to organize and prioritize work
o Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
o Ability to follow direction and work as a team member
o Ability to carry out the duties of the position as outlined
o Ability to speak French, Spanish, or Arabic would be an asset
o Valid G class driver's license, $1,000,000 PL/PD auto insurance, safe driving record and reliable vehicle required
This position is mainly carried out within the Centre with the opportunity to represent the Centre while facilitating and assisting team members with activities and programs offsite within community neighbourhood locations. Work environment will be both indoor and outdoor.
The Centre is a fast-paced environment, requiring staff members to work independently and show initiative, while remaining flexible to change.
Some heavy lifting, up to 50lbs, will be required.
20 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Hours will vary. Evenings will be required, with some weekend shifts.
$22,880 – 24,960
