About
The Opportunity for you If youre a Network Engineer who enjoys hands-on networking work and wants to join a provider where the network function is taken seriously, then this could be for you.
The business is growing and continuing to invest in its network capability. Theyre expanding their national fibre rollout, building on an existing owned dark fibre and fixed wireless estate, and spending time improving how the network is designed, monitored and supported. Theres a clear focus on automation and software-defined networking, but without losing sight of day-to-day service delivery.
Theyre adding to the network team due to growth and they want engineers who have their finger on the pulse by way of what's next in this industry.
The Role As a 2nd line Network Support Engineer, youll be part of the team responsible for keeping customer networks running reliably and resolving more complex issues when they arise.
Youll take ownership of incidents from start to finish, working through problems methodically and keeping customers informed. The work covers LAN, WLAN, routing, switching and firewall technologies, including access point and RF issues, performance troubleshooting, firewall rules, VPNs and security policies.
Alongside reactive support, youll also carry out regular health checks and audits across the customer estate to spot potential issues early and improve overall service quality. Its a busy MSP environment, so youll need to be comfortable managing multiple tickets at once and taking part in a 24/7 on-call rota.
The Environment Youll be joining a network team that deals with large-scale, real-world infrastructure rather than just small standalone setups. Theres exposure to carrier-grade networks, data centre environments and modern networking tools.
What theyre looking for Theyre looking for someone with a solid 2nd line background who understands MSP support and is comfortable dealing directly with customers. Youll ideally have a couple of years experience in a network support role, good fundamentals across TCP/IP, routing and switching, and hands-on experience supporting WLAN and firewall technologies.
Experience with Fortinet firewalls would be useful, and exposure to vendors such as Juniper, Ruckus or Cisco would help, but theyre realistic about this. What matters most is that you can troubleshoot properly, communicate clearly, and take responsibility for issues until theyre resolved. Certifications like CCNA or vendor-specific quals are a bonus, not a requirement.
Package The role is paying up to £35,000 and comes with a strong benefits package. Youll receive 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to buy extra days if needed. As well as this, private healthcare is included.
