About The Role We are seeking a talented and motivated Design Engineer specializing in Water Networks to join Severn Trent's in-house Design Team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work on a variety of clean water infrastructure projects, providing technical exposure and career development opportunities. As a Design Engineer, you will contribute to designing efficient, sustainable, and customer-focused water distribution networks. You will initially support senior team members in delivering projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Your work will directly impact the quality of water services provided to communities and help reduce environmental footprints.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with or designing clean water networks and possess a good understanding of CDM regulations within the design process. Your responsibilities will include preparing detailed designs, collaborating with hydraulic modelers, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. You will also be involved in site visits, project documentation, and stakeholder engagement, all while working towards your professional growth within a supportive team environment.
Qualifications The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong technical background in water network design, with relevant experience in the water industry. Essential qualifications include a degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources, or a related field. Knowledge of hydraulic modelling software and proficiency in systems such as GIS and CAD is highly desirable. Candidates should have a good understanding of health and safety standards, particularly CDM 2015, and be familiar with managing design phases from feasibility through to detailed design. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills are crucial, along with the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
Design and develop clean water distribution networks, ensuring optimal performance and sustainability.
Work closely with hydraulic modellers to analyze and optimize water system designs.
Prepare technical reports, option appraisals, and key deliverable documents for project approval.
Conduct site visits to assess on-ground conditions and ensure designs meet site-specific requirements.
Ensure all designs comply with relevant health and safety standards, including CDM 2015 regulations.
Manage individual project timelines, budgets, and quality standards effectively.
Collaborate with stakeholders, clients, and internal teams to deliver innovative solutions.
Support the development of sustainable design practices with a focus on carbon reduction.
Assist in the mentoring and development of junior engineers within the team.
