As a Content Strategist you’ll act as the connector between insight, creativity, and execution, inspiring colleagues to think audience first, understanding who they are, what they care about, and how they behave across digital platforms. You’ll translate these insights into sharp strategies for clients working across sectors and spaces. You’ll be a trend‑spotter, innovator, storyteller, and analyst, decoding data and cultural signals to create channel‑specific strategies and plans for campaigns, strategic communications, and year‑round engagement activities for our clients. Your work will ensure our communications perform exceptionally against client objectives, measured by depth, breadth, and scale of audience engagement. You will be a trusted advisor to senior clients and go‑to source of insight and counsel. You are a strategic thinker with deep experience developing and overseeing the execution of high‑quality, multidisciplinary campaigns on behalf of clients. You and your peers are central to the running of the consultancy, driving Hawthorn’s entrepreneurial culture and taking responsibility for managing junior members of the team – playing a key role in developing and retaining Hawthorn’s talent. You will shape and deliver strategy and content for a wide range of clients as well as advising other client teams across the business. You’ll provide expert guidance on everything from writing and developing content that cuts across multiple channels to building our knowledge and evidence base for informed content decisions. Key Responsibilities
For clients:
Interpret client briefs and turn them into actionable content strategies, advising on formats, platforms, placements, and tone of voice. Use research and platform data to understand audience behaviours, preferences, and trends, and turn these insights into effective content strategies for clients and new business prospects. Oversee content planning and optimisation, ensuring creative outputs are audience‑relevant, aligned with campaign objectives and measurable. Contribute creative and original ideas in brainstorms and client meetings (as well as new business pitch processes), shaping narratives and social storytelling. Monitor and interpret analytics (reach, engagement, retention, conversions) to evaluate content effectiveness and inform future campaigns. Work collaboratively across a diverse client portfolio in sectors including tech, media, energy, financial services, and luxury. Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and contractors, responding promptly to feedback to deliver high‑quality outputs. Partner with cross‑functional stakeholders to uncover challenges and opportunities, to anticipate needs and confidently transform insights into actionable briefs. For Hawthorn:
Split your time between leading content strategy for your own clients and contributing expertise in an advisory capacity across Hawthorn’s broader portfolio. Own content strategy and roadmaps for Hawthorn (and clients), setting priorities, themes, and success metrics across channels. Oversee account management and support senior leaders in business development activities. Stay up to date with evolving digital trends, platform updates, and user behaviours to inform strategy and execution. Actively build your network and seek new opportunities and partnerships for Hawthorn, and its clients. Proven experience (5+ years) in content strategy, digital marketing, and strategic communications within an agency or multi‑disciplined organisation. Established track record of campaign delivery as well as strategy for ongoing programmes. Strong ability to interpret briefs and translate them into actionable strategies across multiple channels. Confident scoping projects, managing budgets and ensuring clients and briefs remain profitable for the consultancy. Demonstrated expertise in social media platforms, content formats, and distribution strategies (paid and organic). Ability to decode data and cultural insights to inform creative and strategic decisions. Excellent writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives for diverse audiences. Experience collaborating with different teams to deliver integrated content solutions. Strong project management skills, able to prioritise, set roadmaps, and deliver high‑quality outputs under tight deadlines. Solid understanding of SEO principles, analytics, and performance measurement. Experience in hands‑on content creation (e.g., video, graphics, social cards) and repurposing content for different platforms.
