What you will be doing This role is a staff grade two-year secondment working within the In-Service Submarines Secondary Propulsion Design Authority team based at MoD Abbey Wood in Bristol. It provides the successful candidate with an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment dealing with engineering challenges to ensure submarine platforms are available for national tasking. The role offers development opportunities through direct exposure to the inner workings of the Submarine Delivery Agency and the ability to directly influence submarine availability.
Responsibilities You’ll be working for MoD as a design engineer ensuring safety first :
Ensuring Design Authority Requirements are being met
Seeking opportunities to embed Rolls-Royce best practice within SDA process
Leading small projects from concept to delivery to improve submarine propulsion plant availability
Assist in defect diagnosis and rectification including determining potential mitigations and repair options which might entail travel to UK naval bases.

This role provides the successful candidate with opportunities to expand their non-Nuclear Steam Raising Plant knowledge in a multi-stakeholder environment. It will enable them to influence submarine availability through identification of improvements and promote the Rolls-Royce Submarines behaviours in a front line role.

Who were looking for
Educated to Bachelor degree level or equivalent in a Mechanical Engineering discipline or similar.
Relevant experience working with mechanical systems or within mechanical design section.
Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence and gain agreement for complex or impacting programmes of work.
Self-motivated with an ability to work in a dynamic fast paced in-service environment with a light touch from management.
An awareness of the principles behind and aims of the RRSL Availability Optimisation
