JobPurpose: Participate in all aspects ofdesign and illustration across the Trust, providing a service which isresponsive to the needs of the Trust. Produce patient informationresources in line with departmental/Trust processes, for both print andelectronic distribution, ensuring all consent, confidentiality, legal andaccessibility guidelines are adhered to. Produce high quality and costeffective clinical/non clinical visual material including design for printand electronic delivery, in line with LTHT and NHS branding and accessibilitystandards. Contribute to the clinical andnon-clinical video editing service. Ensure the efficient and effectiveutilisation of all resources within their area of responsibility. Job responsibilities
1Job Purpose Toparticipate in medical illustration (design) to enable the effectivedissemination of research, the production of patient information and thesupport of excellence in education. Toproduce high quality and cost effective clinical/non clinical visual materialincluding design for print and electronic delivery, assisting in producingvideo and editing, multi-media production such as DVD authoring and updatingTrust website/ intranet pages abiding by all consent, confidentiality andlegal guidelines and Trust and departmental standards and guidelines. 2Job Dimensions TheMedical Illustration service provides the photographic, video and designservice to every clinical specialty within LTHT 3Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required Allpost-holders are expected to possess a Media Qualification to at leastHND/Degree level in design or related media subject along with a portfolio ofwork which demonstrates significant original design. The post-holder should show a willingnessto undertake further study such as the Post Experience Certificate in Designin Healthcare Allpost-holders must have at least two years of relevant commercial or MedicalIllustration experience. Understandingof the need to deliver against the Trusts core behaviours to contribute tothe creation of an effective working environment. 7Core Knowledge and Understanding Anunderstanding of the organisation, its objectives, and how MedicalIllustration contributes to achieving those objectives. 8Principal Duties and Areas of Responsibility Consultdirectly with clients requesting graphics material and analyse their needs toidentify the most appropriate approach of dealing with the request, this willinclude ensuring value for money for the Trust, production options andcopyright & consent issues. Toundertake all aspects of graphic design including the production ofconference material such as scientific and non-scientific posters as well asa wide range of routine and non-routine graphics material. Duties willinclude designing leaflets, posters, booklets, banners, adverts, patientinformation etc these will include complex graphics projects, electronicteaching/training packages (e.g. DVD authoring), web/multimedia/Trustintranet design/editing, video editing Tobe computer literate and highly proficient in specialist computer graphics,desk-top publishing and multimedia, software. The post-holder should also befamiliar with standard office software such as Microsoft PowerPoint, and havethe ability to use computers for file management, workflow organisation andrecord keeping. Accurateand timely management and administration of digital files, including accuraterecord keeping, naming and archiving files in line with establishedprotocols. Ensureall appropriate documentation is undertaken to support the administrativeprocesses within the service. This involves entering and updating accuratejob details into the departments job management system (WABA), includingrelevant charging details for the work being undertaken (e.g cost codes,trust fund details, invoicing addresses, etc). This can involve dealingdirectly with business managers/fund holders the correct chargingdetails. Produceappropriate visuals/prototypes and discuss the options with the client and/orTeam Leader prior to completing the final product, ensuring a high quality,fit for purpose, value for money end product. Constructivecriticism from the client and members of the Design Team is encouraged toensure customer satisfaction.Participation in peer review of work is therefore essential. Whenassisting with, the post-holder may work with staff from otherdepartments, and patients in clinical areas such as wards and theatre. Thepost-holder will undertake editing, sound recording and outputting usingspecialist software to support the video production service. Tobe able to prioritise their own workload, managing timescales and workflow toensure deadlines are met and a timely and efficient service is provided. Thepostholder will be expected to plan on-going assignments and work with othersto ensure completion. e.g. liaise with the appropriate staff to arrange anynecessary photography or complex illustrations. Thepost-holder will be expected to negotiate the technical specification ofservices from external agencies according to the needs of a particular job.For example pricing up banners/display stands from external companies andsupplying artwork in the correct formatto ensure the production of the project Requisitionservices from external agencies such as lamination, mounting and framingservices. Tooperate and maintain graphic output devices e.g. plotter and printers. Tobe conversant with modern/changing trends in all aspects of design such asthe development and delivery of information to patients e.g. InformationPrescriptions and to keep abreast of technological development within themedical illustration field. To assist in the implementation of new techniquesas appropriate and undertake personal development to ensure that anappreciation and understanding of technological developments is maintained Toimplement NHS and corporate guidelines in the design and execution of workand demonstrate awareness of copyright and consent issues relating to the useof images Theremay be a requirement for the post-holder to assist in the annual risk andsafety audit to ensure the effective management of health and safety withinthe Design and Illustration service Tobe conversant with local and national policies and guidelines e.g. LTHTPatient Information Policies, Department of Health & National Instituteof Clinical Excellence policies, Disability Discrimination Act, LTHT Equalityand Diversity Policy and Plain English to ensure products are fit for purposeand meet all relevant requirements Supportand train other staff as appropriate TheMedical Illustration Department provides services in a competitive field andthere are occasions where it is necessary to work overtime in order to meetdeadlines on work. Experience
At least 2 years of relevant commercial or Medical Illustration based experience. A portfolio of work from actual client briefs demonstrating significant original design, understanding of consistent brand application, and accessibility considerations Highly advanced skills in using specialist design software eg. Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop), and general computer/IT skills including Microsoft Office Example of projects created with a health care focus. Experience of video editing using Final cut pro video editing software Qualifications
Minimum HND/Degree or equivalent in a relevant media qualification Successful completion of the Post experience certificate in Graphic Design in Healthcare or equivalent or willingness to study in first year
