Responsibilities
Lead an applied team of Machine Learning Engineers to build and enhance Snap’s consumer-facing Gen AI products and AI Lenses, focusing on image and video generation, editing, and large‑language models.
Collaborate extensively with Product, Software Engineering, Lens Content, Data Science, and executive stakeholders to prototype new ideas, integrate ML models and APIs into production, and refine them through A/B testing and user feedback.
Monitor the market and research landscape for new Gen AI developments, evaluate open‑source models and third‑party AI APIs/services, and make build‑vs‑buy decisions to keep Snap’s products at the cutting edge.
Oversee the end‑to‑end ML lifecycle from product research and prototyping to training, deployment, and ongoing inference in production, ensuring best practices in availability, scalability, cost‑efficiency, and operational excellence.
Facilitate technical planning, code reviews, and maintain high‑quality code and operational standards across projects.
Evaluate technical trade‑offs of major decisions and serve as a strong technical mentor.
Manage, mentor, and grow a fast‑paced, high‑performing engineering team.
Hire and retain top talent.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Track record of delivering ML‑based backend products at scale in rapidly changing, highly collaborative environments.
Extensive collaboration experience with Product, Design, and Data Science teams building consumer‑facing ML products.
Deep understanding of machine learning approaches and algorithms, especially generative models such as GANs, diffusion models, transformers, and LLMs; proven ability to apply them to impactful product solutions.
Stays current with research and prototypes new ideas quickly.
Strong management and mentorship skills that foster a collaborative and innovative team culture.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.
Effective collaboration with stakeholders at all levels, internally and externally.
Ability to lead and execute large, complex technical initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
Strong background in Machine Learning.
Experience supporting applied machine learning teams working closely with Product.
Experience leading machine learning teams focused on Gen AI.
Proven track record of supporting technical teams.
Strong problem‑solving skills and background in machine learning.
Master’s or PhD in Computer Science (or equivalent work experience).
History of product road‑mapping and decision‑making.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with visual Gen AI models for image and video generation and editing.
Experience evaluating visual quality of image and video models.
Proven track record of collaborating with Product, Design, and Software Engineering to launch consumer‑facing Gen AI or ML products.
Experience with large‑scale machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, Caffe2, PyTorch, Spark ML, scikit‑learn, or related frameworks.
Experience with machine learning ranking infrastructures and system design.
Proactive learning and application of new concepts.
