Principle Mechanical Design Engineer
with specialist experience in
rotating machinery . This is a key technical role within a high-performing design team, focused on delivering complex mechanical systems for demanding industrial applications.
Location: Coventry
Key Responsibilities
Lead the mechanical design and development of precision‑engineered rotating equipment, including motors, pumps, compressors, turbines, or gearbox assemblies.
Produce detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings (preferably using SolidWorks).
Conduct engineering calculations, stress analysis, tolerance analysis, and material selection.
Provide technical oversight and guidance to junior engineers and design technicians.
Ensure designs meet relevant performance, cost, compliance, and manufacturing requirements.
Collaborate with internal teams across R&D, production, testing, and quality to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions.
Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, FMEAs, and continuous improvement activities.
Candidate Profile
Degree‑qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline.
Extensive experience in the design and development of rotating machinery or high‑speed mechanical systems.
Strong proficiency in 3D CAD and technical drawing creation (SolidWorks preferred).
Demonstrated understanding of mechanical design theory, structural integrity, thermodynamics, and dynamics of rotating systems.
Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards (API, ISO, ASME, etc.).
Able to lead design projects from concept through to production release.
Confident communicator with the ability to influence technical discussions and decision‑making.
FEA (e.g. ANSYS) and/or CFD simulation tools.
Experience with high‑integrity or safety‑critical equipment.
Knowledge of condition monitoring, vibration analysis, or thermal management.
Prior experience working within a regulated or ISO‑certified design environment.
