Fortress Recruit is working with a Defence Manufacturer who are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead and deliver complex electrical projects. This role is ideal for a technically strong engineer who can provide guidance to junior staff, drive design excellence, and implement improvements across engineering processes.
You’ll play a key role in concept and detailed design, ensuring high standards of accuracy, compliance, and cost-effective delivery, while supporting cross-functional teams and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
Key responsibilities
Lead electrical design activities in line with customer, legislative, and internal standards.
Ensure design outputs meet quality, programme, and budget requirements.
Provide guidance and technical support to engineers and colleagues on design, verification, and manufacturing.
Undertake concept and detailed design, offering oversight and mentoring for junior engineers.
Provide technical input for new business opportunities and cost estimates.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and design capability.
Report on technical progress, resource utilisation, and project performance.
To be considered for this role, you’ll have
An Engineering degree, or HNC / HND with significant experience.
9+ years’ experience in electrical / electronic design within an engineering environment.
Strong working knowledge of electrical CAD tools, MRP / ERP systems, and Microsoft Office.
Proven ability to lead, mentor, and influence teams.
Strong communication and presentation skills, able to engage with peers and senior stakeholders.
Experience with ruggedised or complex engineering systems (desirable).
Eligibility for SC Clearance (5 years' UK residency with no visa or sponsorship requirement)
This is a full‑time, permanent role based in Poole, looking to pay c£50-60K DoE, with flexible working opportunity, and occasional travel as required.
