The Role You will lead a one‑team culture while contributing your own expertise. The role involves coordinating the electrical design team to deliver high‑quality outputs for a portfolio of wastewater treatment projects under the guidance of the Design Manager.
Key Attributes / Requirements
Commitment to Health & Safety in design, complying fully with the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM) and all other relevant H&S legislation.
In‑depth knowledge of the layout and interconnectivity of typical water and wastewater treatment processes and equipment, including pumping systems.
Strong communication skills to interact with other engineering disciplines and clients.
Ability to produce clear and concise electrical design deliverables across all design stages of a project.
Project management and design delivery management skills.
Leadership skills to manage and motivate individuals to consistently deliver.
Willingness to develop and contribute to technical knowledge networks.
A drive for professional development and a knowledge of current and emerging technical solutions.
Flexibility to travel within the UK (including Northern Ireland) and Ireland.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Report to the Design Manager.
Produce design deliverables for water, wastewater and process treatment plants as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
Assist in all aspects of electrical design from site surveys, feasibility studies, detailed design and tender pricing.
Produce procurement specifications, cable calculations and detailed design construction drawings.
Project manage third‑party designs and support installation and commissioning teams; liaise with clients and subcontractors.
Support project delivery in a “one team” culture.
Ensure compliance with Design, H&S, Environmental & Sustainability standards, policies and procedures.
Monitor design delivery performance and resources; adjust plans as necessary and keep the MIDP up to date.
Produce electrical design outputs as required and meet client technical requirements.
Conduct regular meetings with project delivery teams to allocate resources and monitor progress.
Update design change control.
Liaise between mechanical, civil & structural designers.
Participate in business development and recruitment activities for the direct delivery model.
Provide robust leadership and support for site teams.
Mentor and train junior staff; demonstrate an eagerness to grow personally and professionally.
Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Chartered or Incorporated member of the IET with extensive experience in water or wastewater, non‑infrastructure, and infrastructure design.
Knowledge of the Designer and Principal Designer duties under CDM 2015.
Experience managing design quality control processes.
Experience developing programmes and budgets and monitoring progress against both.
Strong team‑leadership and decision‑making skills.
Proven mentoring record for design staff.
Experience with Thames & Yorkshire Water’s electrical design standards advantageous but not essential.
Strong communication and motivation skills.
Commercial experience desirable.
Interest in a career within an industry‑leading organisation.
Ability to work as part of a team in project delivery and contribute at team meetings.
Problem‑solving initiative and ability to adapt to issues as they arise.
Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Full driving licence.
