About

PCB Design Engineer Expleo Group – a leading global engineering services provider with UK presence in 10 locations – is seeking a PCB Design Engineer to provide PCB design services. The successful candidate will work predominantly remote with occasional attendance at the client site in Rochester. Ideal candidates have experience designing high‑reliability PCBs for marine, military, aerospace or rail applications.
Responsibilities
Review and understand the client systems process guidelines (e.g. Hardware Design Implementation Document, PCB Requirements & Constraints).
Import PCB profile data from the Mechanical Design Team into the PCB Design Tool (Xpedition Designer VX).
Support generation of layout constraints, guidelines documentation and PCB stack‑up design per client process and templates; review with client peer group and update design following review.
Generate PCB stack‑up and layout following client processes and templates.
Support post‑layout analysis of power integrity, timing parameters and validate any stack‑up/model data, reviewing results with the client peer group and updating design.
Support mandatory post‑layout analysis (e.g. thermal performance) per client process and update design post‑review.
Support tracking constraints and guidelines documentation, review with client peer group and update design.
Generate tracking of PCB per client processes and templates.
Support delivery of an independent design review of the entire design prior to layout and artwork; update design post‑review.
Support edits from supplier feedback (DFM, DRC processes) to improve yield.
After layout and artwork acceptance and PCB order placement, generate the PCB manufacturing drawing set (General Assembly Drawing) defining assembly mechanisms.
Use the client JIRA BUGS system to flag any issues identified during work package execution; convert to PRs if significant.
Qualifications
Degree level qualification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
Lower qualification (e.g. HNC/HND) acceptable if candidate demonstrates significant experience.
Essential Skills
Capable of working independently or within a team.
Produces high‑level technical work without supervision on minimally defined tasks.
Peer reviews, guides others, produces reuse estimates.
Reliable self‑estimation of work and sound tactical technical decisions.
Desired Skills
Experience with DO254 or similar military spec, multilayer, EMC, formal design methodology.
Use of CAD tool such as Siemens Mentor or equivalent.
Requirement definition & management using IBM DOORS or equivalent.
Simulation or emulation packages (e.g. Simetrix Design Analysis).
Multi‑layer PCB layout.
Design for EMC and environmental test.
Experience
Minimum five years’ experience delivering complex PCB designs.
Proficient in Mentor Xpedition Designer VX.
Experience delivering high‑reliability electronics for hostile environments (aerospace, military, marine, rail).
Ability to obtain UK security clearance.
