We are excited to offer a permanent Mobile General Building Operative role in the West Midlands. The position involves travelling across the region, visiting HMP Hewell and HMP Long Lartin. You will have access to a company van and fuel card to travel between sites.
Standard hours: 39 hours per week, 08:00 – 17:00 with an earlier finish every Friday. The role also requires working 1 in 3 weekends on a rota basis, with an additional 15% allowance, and part of an on‑call rota.
What you will do
Work as part of a skilled team to deliver general maintenance tasks and support specialist tradespeople on site.
Ensure health & safety standards are met across all activities, following best practice and compliance requirements.
Provide professional assistance to staff and contractors, including escorting duties when required.
Carry out practical DIY tasks such as decorating, hanging notice boards, assembling furniture, and repairing items around the prison.
Inspect appliances, fittings, and the general environment to ensure everything is in good working order, reporting defects promptly to the team leader.
Support zero‑carbon initiatives by working strategically and efficiently to reduce environmental impact.
Maintain good housekeeping standards, including litter picking and landscaping around the grounds when needed.
Assist with other facilities management duties as directed by the team manager.
What you will bring
Solid experience in DIY/general building maintenance.
CITB relevant certification or equivalent.
Willingness to learn new skills.
Ability to work well in a team.
Full UK driving licence.
Prison security clearance will be required (Amey will support you through this process).
