About

At Allye, our innovative smart energy storage systems are redefining the way batteries are designed, connected, distributed, and utilised to the grid. Flexible and modular, our systems are intelligently managed, making energy storage more affordable and accessible for everyone.
Job Description An electrical engineering role focussed on the design, development, and implementation of high-power electrical systems for our MAX energy storage solutions. You will be responsible for AC control panel design and sign-off, working with standard 3-phase 400V AC and HV DC systems at MW power levels exceeding 1MW.
Lead the electrical design of power distribution systems, control panels, and electrical integration for our battery energy storage products. This includes developing electrical schematics, single line diagrams, and field wiring diagrams whilst ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards including UL508A and IEC61439-1/2.
Work closely with our multidisciplinary team to deliver robust, scalable electrical systems that integrate seamlessly with our battery management systems, power electronics, and grid connection requirements. You will take ownership of electrical designs from concept through to commissioning, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and regulatory compliance.
The role offers an excellent opportunity to work on cutting-edge energy storage technology within a rapidly growing and dynamic company. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with high‑power electrical systems and a strong understanding of industrial control panels and power distribution at the MW scale.
Design and Specification of AC Control Panels and Harnesses:
Lead the specification and detailed design of low-voltage AC boxes and internal wiring harnesses for high-power BESS units.
Responsibilities include selecting appropriate contactors, protection devices, current measurement equipment, and digital meters; designing modular internal harnesses for efficient assembly and diagnostics; and ensuring compliance with relevant standards such as IEC 61439 and UL508A.
Experience with CAN‑enabled devices, high‑voltage segregation practices, and integration of inverter synchronisation logic is highly desirable.
Electrical Systems Design
Design and develop electrical systems for battery energy storage solutions at MW power levels (1MW+)
Create electrical schematics, single line diagrams, and field wiring diagrams
Design and sign‑off on AC control panels for 3‑phase 400V systems and HV DC
Specify and select electrical components including switchgear, protection devices, transformers, and control systems
Ensure designs comply with relevant standards including UL508A, IEC61439-1/2, and grid connection requirements
Integration and Testing
Collaborate with mechanical and software teams to ensure seamless integration
Develop testing specifications and commissioning procedures for systems
Support build of systems, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities
Coordinate with I/O circuits for main PLC controllers and safety systems
Documentation and Compliance
Generate comprehensive technical documentation including BOMs, installation guides, and maintenance procedures
Ensure all designs meet safety requirements and industry standards for high‑voltage, high‑power applications
Support certification processes and regulatory approvals for grid‑tied systems
Maintain design documentation and version control throughout project lifecycle
Qualifications Must-haves
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
3-5 years of electrical engineering experience with power systems
Proven experience with AC control panel design and sign‑off for applications
Experience with battery energy storage systems or renewable energy projects
Strong knowledge of 3-phase 400V AC systems and HV DC electrical systems
Experience working with MW‑scale power systems (1MW+)
Knowledge of grid codes and connection requirements (G99/G100 in UK)
Proficiency in electrical design software and electrical calculations
Understanding of relevant standards including UL508A, IEC61439-1/2, IEEE standards, and electrical safety codes
Knowledge of IEC 61508 functional safety and global certifications (UL, CSA, EU)
EMC/EMI design expertise including grounding, filtering, and shielding systems for MW‑scale applications
Experience with electrical testing and commissioning procedures
Good lab skills with oscilloscopes, impedance analysers, and testing equipment
Design for testability (DFT) principles and test fixture design experience
System integration experience including wire harness design, cable sizing
Read and create electrical schematics, single line diagrams, and drawings
Strong problem‑solving skills, ability to troubleshoot complex electrical systems
Excellent communication skills, can work effectively in cross‑functional teams
Nice to Have
Familiarity with embedded control systems and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, CAN)
Knowledge of power electronics, inverters, and grid connection requirements
Knowledge of DC/DC converters and isolated power supplies design
Understanding of electrical protection and safety systems for high‑power
Experience with PLCs and industrial automation systems
PCB layout review capabilities and understanding of EMC considerations
Understanding of sensor design for real‑time monitoring in noisy environments
