We are looking for an exceptionally talented and energetic Tort Clerk/Legal Assistant to join us. They must work well in a fast-paced environment and take pride in exceeding expectations. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, conscientious, and dedicated to providing excellent service to our seriously injured clients.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Handling undertakings, under advisements and refusals of all parties.
  • Requesting productions and medical documentations.
  • Organizing and maintaining the documents brief both in electronic and paper version.
  • Updating records, preparing memorandum of progress on individual matters, and logging telephone calls.
  • Drafting documents for review by lawyer responsible for matters.
  • Ensuring thorough and timely document production by all parties to actions.
  • Reviewing examination for discovery transcripts to compile undertakings and refusals and following up in a timely manner.
  • Drafting correspondence to clients, experts, other parties, witnesses, etc. as needed.
  • Drafting and preparing correspondence to opposing counsel and legal documents.
  • Ensuring that preparations for trials, discoveries and mediations are completed in a timely manner.


SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Legal assistant diploma
  • Minimum 3+ years of plaintiff personal injury tort experience
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • Strong technical skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office. Familiarity with Ghost Practice is an asset.
  • Well-developed time management skills and commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work well under pressure with a high volume of files (an average of 150 with varying difficulty).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and client service skills.
  • Knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure and Torts are a must, including the ability to read and interpret legislation.
  • Working knowledge of Accidents Benefits is an asset.
  • Maintaining physical files and updating knowledge management systems (Ghost practice, Med chart) as needed.
