Founded in 1959, Tipco is a Canadian owned and operated precision manufacturing company. Tipco manufactures precision components for a wide range of industries, including the automotive, aerospace, building materials, construction, consumer packaged goods, medical, and pharmaceutical industries.

In the past five years, Tipco has made significant capital investments in the company’s manufacturing operations, including new CNC Swiss-style lathes, 3+2 axis mills, 5-axis shape grinders, precision surface grinders, wire EDMs, and inspection equipment. Tipco has also made significant investments in the company’s IT infrastructure.
Tipco is now looking for a dynamic individual to step into a newly created role, Vice President of Operations. Tipco’s Vice President of Operations will be responsible for managing and advancing the company’s Canadian manufacturing operations.
The ideal candidate will be a motivated results-oriented individual that is focused on driving operational excellence, optimizing production processes, and implementing strategic initiatives that maximize efficiency and productivity. The right candidate will have extensive hands-on precision manufacturing and management experience – including a strong track record of developing and implementing Industry 4.0 strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Strategy:
- Develop and implement operational strategies that align with corporate goals and drive sustainable growth.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing operations team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
- Cultivate an empowering and inclusive culture that emphasizes employee engagement, teamwork, and accountability.
2. Operational Excellence:
- Oversee all manufacturing operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in production processes.
- Implement best practices in lean manufacturing, quality control, and supply chain management.
- Oversee all aspects of precision manufacturing operations, ensuring that production schedules are met with adherence to quality, efficiency, and safety standards.
- Implement and optimize advanced manufacturing technologies and processes to improve productivity and reduce cycle times.
3. Performance Management:
- Monitor KPIs to evaluate operational performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Drive initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve overall operational metrics.
4. Quality Assurance:
- Establish and maintain strict quality control practices and protocols to meet industry standards and customer expectations.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives, utilizing Six Sigma and other methodologies to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
5. Financial Performance:
- Manage the operations budget, monitor financial performance, and ensure effective resource allocation to achieve profitability and cost reduction goals.
- Utilize data analytics to drive decision-making and reporting on operational performance metrics.
6. Financial Oversight:
- Develop and manage the operations budget, ensuring the efficient allocation of resources.
- Analyze financial performance, making data-driven decisions to optimize profitability.
7. Team Development:
- Recruit, train, and mentor a skilled operations team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development in advanced manufacturing techniques and technologies.
- Conduct performance evaluations and set goals for team members to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.
8. Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental policies.
- Promote a safe working environment, implementing safety protocols and training for all personnel.
9. Innovation & Improvement:
- Identify and evaluate new technologies and processes that can enhance manufacturing efficiency and effectiveness.
- Lead change management initiatives and encourage innovative problem-solving approaches within the organization.
10. Innovation and Growth:
- Drive innovation within the organization by identifying opportunities for technology adoption and process improvement in precision machining.
- Stay up to date with industry trends to position the company for future growth opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, manufacturing, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
- 10+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of 5-axis machining processes and advanced manufacturing technologies.
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and methodologies.
- Proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans and initiatives.
- Proven track record of achieving operational efficiencies and driving performance improvements.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies.
