Overview The AtkinsRéalis Infrastructure Project Delivery Practice (PDP) is the Centre of excellence for the delivery of infrastructure projects and combines the best in project management and design management to provide a full suite of services to clients in the public and private sectors. The team is responsible for delivery of design services across our markets of Water Infrastructure, Defence Infrastructure, Nuclear, Aviation, Energy, Rail (stations), and Urban Developments. We have an exciting vacancy within the Infrastructure PDP and are seeking an enthusiastic Engineering / Design Manager to join our North, Scotland, and Northern Ireland (NS&NI) practice, based from our Manchester office.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for a talented person who wants to take the next step in their career and take responsibility for projects from inception through to completion. You will be an established Engineering / Design Manager within the infrastructure sector, this role offers the chance to develop your career and expand your experiences across a wide range of exciting projects across varied markets. The position is likely to combine agile working from our NS&NI offices with time at client offices and sites.
Your Responsibilities
Author and maintain a robust Design Management Plan, drawing contributions from discipline leads in accordance with governance processes.
Contribute to the production and development of the Project Execution Plan and the project BIM Execution Plan.
Implement agreed platform for project collaboration and deliver the Basis of Design.
Ensure technical quality assurance/control processes and develop effective technical delivery processes to improve the production of design deliverables.
Work collaboratively with the Project Manager and discipline leads to communicate with client stakeholders where additional scope is occurring.
Host stakeholder meetings, facilitate meeting actions, promote and mentor the multi-disciplinary design team.
Ensure effective communications within the team; liaise with disciplines for resource management and coordinate with the Project Manager.
Provide input to annual performance reviews for multi-discipline staff and identify commercial and technical risks.
Coordinate commercial arrangements, monitor resource requirements, and ensure delivery to programme and budget.
Seek additional workflows to increase revenue and ensure change control process is in place.
Ensure compliance with the design brief, standard designs and products, and convene technical meetings for consistency of output.
Lead multi-disciplinary technical and CDM reviews, ensure technical assurance and deliver design reviews to clients and stakeholders.
Review multi-disciplinary output for quality and consistency, providing sign‑off within the delegation of authority.
Apply sustainable design and Net Zero principles where appropriate.
Qualifications & Experience
Chartered Engineer or Architect or equivalent with demonstrable experience managing design, build and/or operate commissions on multi-disciplinary projects.
Good knowledge of system integration for multi-discipline designs.
Experience in the infrastructure sector delivering major projects and familiarity with NEC contracts.
Knowledge of BIM and 3D modelling tools for design and coordination.
Customer focused with excellent client relationship management skills.
Self‑motivated, proactive, and able to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
Strong leadership, mentoring and team management skills.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
Willingness to travel across the UK and work away from home on client sites if required.
