Job Summary
This position is a Federal Work Study position. WesternU CVM Student Ambassadors will act as a bridge between the college Digital Marketing Communications Specialist (DMCS) and the student experience. This position allows students to gain marketing experience, explore the concepts of social media reach and analytics. Content, or ideas for content, will be self-generated by student ambassadors on a weekly basis, be reviewed at weekly team meetings, and launched in a timely manner. These are shared skill sets between the ambassador positions: analytics, content creation, event marketing, relationship management, social media marketing, and videography.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Individuals must possess the knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
1. Basic computer skills necessary in order to set up document formats in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and /or similar software packages.
2. Good verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to effectively interact with administration, faculty, staff, and students.
3. Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced office.
Required Qualifications
• Must be a current WesternU CVM First- or Second-Year student in good academic standing
• Independent worker with ability to manage multiple projects without a negative impact on their curricular priorities
• Familiarity with Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and X platforms
• Excellent self-starter, with strong task management and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication skills & ability to appropriately represent the WesternU CVM when communicating with students, alumni, or external sites
• Desire to educate the general public on the WesternU CVM mission, the role of veterinarians in society, compassionate animal care, and the point of view of a veterinary student.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience managing social media accounts where regular content is posted
• Experience with email strategy or content management system platforms
• Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite: Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, or Canva
• Comfortable in the areas of photography and videography (phone or camera), and/or digital illustration
Essential Job Duties
Key Responsibilities
1. Analytics: Understands and reviews social media and web metrics on a monthly basis to monitor for trends and areas for growth on our communications channels.

2. Content Creation: Responsibilities in this area would be customized to play to the strengths of the ambassador and may range from the creation of copy for digital ads, interviewing and/or developing media from the perspective of current students, alumni, staff, faculty, and coverage of pre-approved industry partners.

3. Event Marketing: Occasionally assists the DMCS in the creation of static advertisements or dynamic reels advertising WesternU CVM events (ie, College events, student club events, etc).

4. Graphic Design: Occasionally provides input to the DMCS on the design of digital assets like flyers and brochures to represent our programs and events.

5. Outreach: Finds creative ways to engage our audience-spark conversations and develop relationships with campus and industry partners. Connects with on-campus clubs to understand their needs.

6. Social Media Marketing: Helps develop and execute our marketing and social media strategies through regular meetings, consultations, and content generation in partnership with the DMCS for our social media channels. Keeps the team updated on the latest social media trends and innovations and potential projects.

7. Videography: Capture and edit video content, including interviews, event highlights, and promotional materials, trending reel types, etc, to enhance our digital marketing efforts and storytelling from the point of view of veterinary students.
