Your Impact The Lead Hand plays a critical, hands-on leadership role within Malach's sheet metal operations. You will be responsible for programming, operation, troubleshooting, and day-to-day leadership of the Salvagnini punch press and panel bender, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role is ideal for an experienced Salvagnini operator who enjoys owning a process, mentoring others, and continuously improving how work flows through the shop.

Primary Areas of Responsibility: Salvagnini Programming & Operation:
- Program, set up, and operate the Salvagnini S4 punching/shearing center and P4 panel bender.
- Develop, modify, and optimize programs using STREAMPUNCH / STREAMBEND or equivalent Salvagnini software.
- Manage nesting strategies, shear sequencing, punch tooling selection, and bending sequences.
- Support high-mix, low-volume and kit or batch-one production strategies.
- Optimize cycle times, reduce scrap and rework, and support unattended operation where applicable.
- Act as Lead-Hand for the Salvagnini cell, providing daily direction and technical support to operators.
- Coordinate workflow, prioritize jobs, and support production schedules.
- Train and mentor operators on safe operation, setup discipline, quality standards, and best practices.
- Promote consistent standards for safety, quality, housekeeping, and documentation.
- Provide cross-shift support during critical runs as required.
- Ensure full traceability of parts and materials through documented checks.
- Perform and approve first-article inspections, dimensional verification, and in-process quality checks.
- Interpret fabrication drawings and specifications, including basic GD&T.
- Adjust programs and processes to account for material variation and forming behavior.
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for quality or process issues.
- Oversee tooling condition and availability, including punch/die stations and forming tools.
- Perform routine machine and tooling maintenance in accordance with OEM and internal standards.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas, adhering to PPE and safety requirements.
- Work closely with in-house Maintenance for troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance.
- Communicate with external Salvagnini service technicians to schedule downtime and service activities.
- Maintain accurate service records, maintenance logs, and follow-up actions.
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, uptime, and part quality.
- Support standardization of programs, setups, and work instructions.
- Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Scheduling to improve manufacturability and workflow.
- Provide technical feedback to support new product introductions and engineering changes.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 2–3+ years of experience programming and operating Salvagnini S4 and/or P4 systems(or equivalent CNC punch/shear and panel bender equipment) in a high-mix sheet metal environment.
- Strong proficiency with Salvagnini Software's such as STREAMPUNCH and STREAMBEND programming, nesting optimization, and simulation.
- Solid knowledge of punch tooling, multi-press head configurations, shear sequencing, and bending tools.
- Demonstrated capability in first-article validation, dimensional inspection, and process troubleshooting.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, or support operators and work collaboratively across departments.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with S4 + P4 FMS lines, automated load/unload systems, and lights-out production.
- Familiarity with adaptive bending technologies and automatic blank holder functions.
- Ability to read or draft parametric programming for Salvagnini S4/P4 systems.
- Exposure to Lean or continuous improvement initiatives.
Working Conditions:
- Day Shift: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
- Occasional overtime or cross-shift support during critical production runs.
- On-site, hands-on role working with automated sheet metal fabrication equipment.
- All work performed in accordance with Malach safety policies and procedures.
