Applications Engineer
The Applications Engineer serves as the technical liaison between Engineering and Sales, providing expert application guidance on new equipment to ensure customers receive complete, accurate, and timely project proposals. This role translates customer requirements into technically viable solutions while supporting the quote-to-order process and aligning opportunities with the overall product strategy and development roadmap. Essential Functions Perform mechanical engineeringrelated functions including preparation of details, drawings, models, concepts, and basic analyses in support of customer applications. Provide process and application expertise to Sales during the quotation phase and continue technical support through order acceptance. Collaborate closely with engineering teams to develop material references, engineering labor estimates, and proposal drawings that reflect feasible and optimized solutions. Partner with engineering leadership on special or non-standard machine configurations to identify solutions consistent with product line strategy and long-term development goals. Support Sales by defining technical criteria, analyzing customer specifications, and recommending appropriate products, systems, or configurations that meet or exceed customer requirements. Travel with Sales representatives to customer sites as needed to support technical discussions and application definition. Work with Product Management to identify new product opportunities or shifts in market requirements and contribute input to the product development roadmap and priority matrix. Support the transfer of sold projects from Sales to Production Engineering to ensure alignment on scope, assumptions, and technical requirements. Continuously improve the efficiency, accuracy, and consistency of the standard quoting process. Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date content within the CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote) system. Participate in project kick-off meetings, Risk Burn Down (RBD), and Mission Control Room (MCR) meetings as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficiency in CAD software; SolidWorks experience preferred. Strong understanding of mechanical systems and engineered equipment. Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset with the ability to streamline processes. Excellent organizational, planning, and time-management skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with customers, sales teams, and engineering groups. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Ability and willingness to travel as required. Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required. Experience with CRM and ERP/MRP systems preferred. Experience with equipment quoting, capital equipment, or project-based engineering environments is desirable. Prior exposure to project management concepts is a plus.
