About
Assistant Camp Director
Reports to: Camp Director
General Function:
Together with the Camp Director and the Seasonal Assistant Camp Director, the responsibilities of the full-time Assistant Camp Director include: providing supervision, support, coaching and feedback to area managers; addressing unique, challenging, and/or persistent situations that arise involving campers and/or staff; facilitating excellent communication and smooth program delivery across various areas of camp; and most importantly, creating a positive, fun, enthusiastic, safe, and camper-focused attitude among the staff team. In addition to providing support to Camp Kitchikewana's summer camp program (July-August), the Assistant Camp Director will also assist with providing leadership to spring and fall Outdoor Education programs and rental groups. This includes: the development of safe, values-based programs that build assets in children, youth and families; the training and development of program staff; and delivery of all aspects of the outdoor education program. The Assistant Camp Director will also act as the on-site designate for the Camp Director in their absence. They will be required to live on-site during the camping season.
Salary: $45,500 annually
Responsibilities:
In addition to those listed above, responsibilities could also include:
Support : provide support to the Camp Director during the on-site camping season
Staff & Camper Wellness : provide support for the physical and emotional well-being of all camp participants and staff; provide ongoing informal feedback to staff and a formal written evaluation to some Senior Staff members
Supplies & Inventory : maintain inventory, organization, and orders for camp clothing, lost & found, office supplies, camper/staff files, bunk notes, camper mail
Camp Information : maintain, organize, and distribute camper lists (e.g. dietary, medical, bus, etc.) to all required departments
Payroll : assist the Camp Director with ensuring that new-hire human resources and payroll packages are complete and organized
Changeovers : manage the office during camp changeovers and address any cabin placement concerns
Volunteers : assist with the scheduling and coordination of volunteers
Other duties as required
Job Knowledge/Qualifications:
- Demonstrated conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
- Mandated training (including AODA, Workplace Violence & Harassment, Health & Safety Awareness, Child Protection, etc.) is required before or shortly after commencement of work
Required Qualifications/Certifications:
- Clear Police Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Standard First Aid
- CPR-C
- National Lifeguard (NL)
- Pleasure Craft Operators Certification
- Valid G driver's license
- Small Drinking Water Systems Operator (at the camp's expense)
Recommended Qualifications/ Certifications:
- Prior camp supervisory experience in a senior leadership role
- Post-secondary education in camping, recreation, education or a related field
- OCA Camp Marine Module (provided by camp)
