JOB SUMMARY
The Divisional Controller is a hands-on financial leadership role responsible for overseeing and supporting multiple Nation departments. This position requires strong technical accounting expertise, the ability to manage multiple financial operations, and the capacity to work collaboratively with Executive Directors and Managers. The Divisional Controller ensures accurate financial reporting, maintains effective internal controls, and contributes to the economic sustainability and growth of Tsuut'ina Nation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Planning and Analysis:
- In collaboration with the Managers, and Executive Director, prepare budgets, projections, and long-term financial projections.
- Monitor financial performance, conduct variance analysis, and provide strategic recommendations.
Financial Reporting and General Ledger Oversight:
- Manage month-end, and year-end close processes across multiple entities.
- Maintain the general ledger, prepare adjusting entries, and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
- Produce timely and accurate financial statements and management reports.
Compliance and Controls:
- Ensure compliance with government, regulatory, and contractual requirements such as GST filings, permitting, and loan covenants.
- Maintain strong internal controls and identify areas of financial risk.
- Uphold audit readiness through thorough documentation and reconciliation practices.
Audit Support:
- Prepare working papers and interact with external auditors.
- Address audit inquiries and implement recommendations as needed.
Leadership and Collaboration:
- Prepare financial performance and support strategic decisions.
- Provide coaching to managers to strengthen financial literary and business understanding.
- Build and maintain positive and productive working relationships with Nation departments and programs.
Participate in system improvements, policy updates, and cross-departmental initiatives.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Desired Education, Experience, and Knowledge:
- CPA Designation (CA, CMA, CGA, or CPA) with two to five (2-5) years of post-designation industry experience.
- Experience working in multi-entity or multi-division environments.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset.
Personal Attributes:
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to foster positive working relationships.
- Advanced analytical, and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage shifting priorities.
- Proficiency with full-cycle accounting software, and advanced Excel.
General Employment Requirements:
- Valid Driver's License, and reliable transportation.
- Criminal Record Check.
