EXL Engineering Kelowna is currently looking for a Materials Testing Technician to perform onsite field materials testing and inspection work in the Okanagan, BC region. The qualified applicant will be responsible for providing accurate and timely sampling, testing and inspection for quality control purposes within the civil construction industry; including concrete, asphalt, aggregates and soils.
No experience necessary, on the job training provided. Must have a good attitude and willingness to learn.
Working in the field and in our materials testing lab, the technician will be required to prepare and maintain various test reports and records, liaise with client representatives, navigate non-conformance issues and provide technical support where needed.
The job skills that you can expect to develop include, but are not limited to:
- Sampling and testing concrete and asphalt
- Testing compaction of soil using a nuclear densometer
- Sampling soil from crushers and gravel pits
- Conducting laboratory tests on soil and rock samples
- Recording detailed field notes at job sites
- Reporting test results on Microsoft Excel and Word
- Clearly communicating (verbally and in writing) technical information to Project Engineers, contractors, and clients
A successful candidate will:
- Be available to work overtime
- Be available to occasionally travel and work outside of Kelowna.
- Be able to start and complete projects independently with minimal supervision (following training)
- Be capable of walking on uneven terrain and steep slopes and able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
- Be detail-orientated and possess good time-management skills
- Be capable of working independently and as part of a team
- Possess a current Class 5 drivers license
- Have strong verbal and written communication skills
- Have previous experience with Microsoft Excel and Outlook
Training will be provided for the right candidate; however, the following experience would be considered an asset:
- Previous materials testing experience
- Quality Control / Management experience
- Civil technical diploma or other applicable post-secondary education
