*Job Summary*
We’re looking for a skilled, hands-on Heavy-Duty Mechanic to support our Shop Foreman throughout this coming winter season. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mechanical repair and maintenance of various heavy equipment, including PistenBully snowcats, excavators, farm machinery etc . This role requires expertise in diagnosing issues, performing repairs, and ensuring the safe operation of equipment.
*Responsibilities*
* Perform scheduled services, inspections, and repairs on PistenBully snowcats (tracks, driveline, hydraulics, electrical, cooling, HVAC), plus excavators, loaders, UTV/ATV, trucks, trailers, small engines, and generators.
* Complete accurate diagnostics (mechanical, hydraulic, and 12/24V electrical); use scan tools and service software where applicable.
* Execute preventative maintenance routines (lubrication, wear checks, fluids, filters, undercarriage/track tension, torque checks).
* Conduct pre- and post-shift equipment inspections; document findings and clear defects promptly.
* Troubleshoot and repair breakdowns in the field, including after-hours call-ins during storm cycles when needed.
* Follow work orders and priorities set by the Shop Foreman; record labour, parts, and notes clearly in logs/CMMS or shared sheets.
* Fabrication & light welding (repairs, brackets, guards) as required; assist with parts adaptation when OEM lead times are tight.
* Hydraulics: hose changes, leak checks, cylinder/seal work, valve troubleshooting.
* Electrical: battery/charging systems, connectors, harness tracing, lighting, sensors.
* Powertrain: belts, driveline, gearboxes, undercarriage, track alignment/tension.
* Manage parts requests and inventory: identify replacements, prepare order lists, receive and label parts; keep critical spares stocked.
* Keep the shop organized (tools away, benches clear, consumables topped up)
* Fuel, fluids & environmental compliance: proper storage, transfer, and disposal (filters, oil, coolant, hydraulic fluids).
* Participate in daily safety meetings; Adhere to workplace safety standards.
* Operator support: show operators basic daily checks, safe start-ups, and shutdown procedures to reduce avoidable wear.
* Assist with generator servicing and Lodge mechanical systems (as directed).
*Experience*
* Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (or 4th-year apprentice with strong experience).
* 1–2 years’ practical shop/field experience on heavy equipment.
* Solid diagnostics across hydraulic and electrical systems; able to read manuals, wiring diagrams, and parts books.
* Competent with basic fabrication/welding and precision work (measuring, torque specs).
* Organized, self-directed, and communicative; comfortable working independently in a small team.
* Physically able to lift/move parts and work in winter mountain conditions.
* *Assets:* First Aid Level 1 (or higher), WHMIS, fall protection, mobile equipment tickets.
* *Assets:* PistenBully experience and/or Over Snow Vehicle experience.
*Schedule and Employment Terms*
* 70–80 hours per pay period with compressed work weeks (rotations vary by weather/ops).
* Must have reliable transport to/from the lodge and be willing to live on-site during rotations (accommodation & meals provided on shift).
* Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and fluent in English.

Contract length: 3 months
Pay: $32.00-$40.00 per hour
