About
Senior Cost Accountant
Location: Vancouver, BC (In-Person)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary Range: $80,000 – $90,000 annually (open to discussion based on experience)
HireNow Staffing is partnering with a well-established, asset-intensive food processing organization to recruit a Senior Cost Accountant who thrives in operationally complex environments and understands how accurate inventory costing drives better business decisions.
This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working close to the operation—not just reporting numbers, but building cost structures, improving processes, and influencing financial accuracy at the source.
Candidates must demonstrate the technical competence and judgment required to operate at a senior level. Meeting the key responsibilities below is essential to be considered for interview.
The Opportunity
As the Senior Cost Accountant, you will be a key contributor to the organization's financial integrity and planning capability. Reporting directly to senior finance leadership, you will own inventory costing methodologies and play a hands-on role in refining how inventory is tracked, valued, and reported across multiple operational touchpoints.
This position requires close collaboration with production, shipping, receiving, IT, and leadership teams. Your work will directly support audits, forecasting, ERP optimization, and executive decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Your primary mandate is to ensure accurate, defensible, and repeatable inventory costing. This includes:
- Leading inventory valuation processes at month-end, quarter-end, and year-end
- Developing and maintaining costing models, templates, and documentation to support audits and business planning
- Ensuring accurate valuation of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods
- Performing and validating frequent inventory counts and investigating variances
- Working cross-functionally with production, shipping, and receiving teams to align physical inventory with financial records
- Analyzing inventory movement and cost drivers to identify risks, inefficiencies, or anomalies
- Supporting the implementation and refinement of the inventory module within the ERP system, in partnership with IT and leadership
- Preparing cost analysis and inventory-focused financial reporting for management review
- Continuously improving inventory controls, data accuracy, and costing discipline across the organization
- Minimum 2+ years of hands-on cost accounting experience
- Background in manufacturing, processing, or inventory-heavy operations
- Professional accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CGA) or actively enrolled in the CPA program
- Advanced Excel proficiency, including complex formulas, reconciliations, and large data sets
- Strong understanding of cost flows, inventory valuation methods, and financial controls
- Ability to analyze operational data and translate findings into clear financial insights
- High attention to detail with the confidence to challenge inconsistencies
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across departments and influence outcomes
Candidates who meet these criteria will be given priority consideration.
- Experience in food processing, seafood, or manufacturing environments
- Familiarity with ERP systems and inventory management modules
- Exposure to multi-site or federally regulated operations
- Comfort working closely with operations teams in a hands-on, on-site environment
- A proactive mindset—someone who improves systems rather than simply maintaining them
- Ability to operate independently while managing competing deadlines
This is not a purely desk-based accounting role.
It is a position for someone who wants visibility into operations, enjoys solving real-world costing challenges, and understands that strong inventory accounting starts on the floor—not just in the ledger.
Compensation & Benefits
- $80,000 – $90,000 annual salary (flexible for the right candidate)
