Position Summary
Consistent with the principles of primary health care and the Mission, Vision and Values of Mount Carmel Clinic. The primary focus of the Perinatal Nurse is providing perinatal nursing care to clients and families of the Point Douglas community and surrounding areas. The incumbent works in partnership with the primary care team and other members of the interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive client centered care. The incumbent adopts a long-term client centered approach to care that is consistent with the philosophy of harm reduction and as a means of ensuring continuity of care. Perinatal nursing services are provided in the clinic and the community.
Qualifications Education & Licensing
- Must be a member in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM)
- Must be licensed to practice in Manitoba
- Must have experience taking responsibility for the activities of a nursing unit or program
- Must be a member in good standing with the Canadian Nurses Association with Perinatal Certification, or will become a member within a reasonable timeframe agreed upon, if applicable
- Currently enrolled in the Perinatal Certification program, or will enroll within a reasonable timeframe agreed upon
- Basic Rescuer Level CPR certification
- Advanced training or expertise in maternal child health required. (Examples, may not be limited to, certified midwife, certified childbirth educator, certified perinatal educator)
- 3 years' experience in a community health setting preferred
- 3 years' experience in maternal child health preferred
- Experience in delivering both individual and group educational sessions.
- Able to work in a multi-disciplinary environment with respect, professionalism, co-operation, sensitivity and cultural awareness.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a non-judgmental manner within and interdisciplinary team environment with respect, professionalism, co-
- operation, sensitivity and cultural awareness.
- Ability to work in a pro-choice community health facility in an inner-city community and provide care using harm reduction principles.
- Understanding of how culture and diversity influence the client service plan.
- Ability to mentor, support and work alongside students and volunteers
- Knowledge of computerized eChart/Accuro programs
- Multiple Languages
