Description

Amico Affiliates is seeking an experienced Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to support its growing portfolio of infrastructure, construction, and specialized government-related projects. This role provides strategic and operational HR support across multiple business units, ensuring HR practices comply with federal, provincial, and defense-contract requirements.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience working with government agencies, controlled goods/defense programs, and understands the staffing, compliance, and workforce integrity requirements associated with these projects.

Responsibilities
  • Acting as a trusted advisor to managers and project leaders across Amico's construction and infrastructure divisions.

  • Providing guidance on staffing strategies, organizational planning, and employee development to support project delivery.

  • Ensuring compliance with HR-related requirements for government-funded and defense-related work (e.g., Controlled Goods Program, security clearance processes, reporting obligations).

  • Partnering with internal compliance and security teams to maintain personnel security files, documentation, and audit readiness.

  • Supporting bid/proposal teams with HR components, including workforce planning and contract compliance requirements.

  • Managing employee relations matters by providing coaching, conflict resolution, and consistent application of company policies.

  • Supporting performance management, investigations, and progressive discipline processes.

  • Working closely with operations to ensure smooth HR support during all phases of construction project lifecycles.

  • Collaborating with internal recruiters to identify and hire candidates for roles requiring government or defense-related experience.

  • Supporting onboarding processes to ensure staff meet all compliance, clearance, and controlled goods requirements.

  • Participating in succession planning and retention strategies for key technical and project roles.

  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of HR policies aligned with Amico's government and defense contract requirements.

  • Supporting compensation reviews, job evaluations, and classification processes.

  • Assisting in delivering training, compliance programs, and workforce development initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Post secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally within construction, engineering, government, or regulated industries.

  • Experience working with government agencies, controlled goods, or defense contract environments (e.g., security clearances, CGP compliance).

  • Strong understanding of HR compliance requirements for government-related projects.

  • Experience supporting mixed union and non-union environments is considered an asset.

  • CHRP/CHRL designation preferred.

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
